Position Summary:
The Program Director is the program administrator for the Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program and reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Natural Director is responsible for all faculty staff and students adhering to the Faculty Protocol all Franklin Pierce policies and procedures and all accrediting standards and shall under the direction of the Dean oversee the programs continuing growth and development.
Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:
Administrative Leadership:
- Serves as the spokesperson and contact person for the College of Health and Natural Sciences with the ARCPA standards in matters related to accreditation and keeps the Dean apprised of issues meetings and significant issues as they arise.
- Certifies program completion for PA students.
- Supports development and maintenance of curricular quality through monitoring of student course evaluations grading patterns postgraduation placements and related measures to assure ongoing accreditation.
- Coordinates curriculum review and revision as necessary. Advises the Dean and faculty on questions related to standards.
- Prepares all necessary and appropriate regulatory reports local State and Federal agencies.
- Under the guidance from the Dean and/or his/her designee develops course schedules and proposes curriculum changes for program. Provides input on changes in the catalog and other related publications as requested.
- Under the direction from the Dean engages in budget planning and effectively manages the operational budget of the program.
- Seeks and secures external funding to support the mission and goals of the physician assistant program.
- Supervises and directs work of Program faculty (fulltime and parttime) and other Program staff.
- Establishes promotes and maintains high standards of academic performance in teaching advising and scholarship/creative activity for Program faculty.
- Reviews and documents performance of Program faculty and staff as required.
- Actively participates in recruitment of new faculty. Makes recommendations to the Dean on needs for new program faculty and on promotions contract status and dismissal of program faculty or staff.
- Makes recommendations to the Dean on immediate and longterm instructional and physical needs of the Program.
- Supports and facilitates the participation of Program personnel in College and Universitywide committees discussions planning and development.
- Supports and facilitates recruitment efforts of Physician Assistant programs such as openhouses information sessions and other CHNS events.
- Attends all Academic Directors meetings and engages faculty in a variety of activities within the graduate programs as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Instructional:- Teach the required workload as assigned by the Dean or his/her designee in accordance with the course syllabus and CHNS Faculty Protocol.
- Continue to update and revise course content and teaching methodology in order to maintain currency and relevance.
- Actively seek ways to improve didactic and clinical instruction.
- Maintain familiarity with current texts materials teaching aids and techniques relative to courses within the discipline and recommend their adoption when appropriate.
- Actively seek ways to improve instruction.
Institutional Service:- Actively participate in assisting the College in maintaining standards required for programmatic and regional accreditation.
- Participate in full regalia in official graduation ceremonies.
- Attend other official functions College of Health and Natural Sciences (CHNS) Reception and orientation/faculty development events as required in the CHNS Faculty Protocol.
Professional Growth and Development- Maintain a program of personal and professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility.
- Maintain stateoftheart knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines.
- In support of ARCPAs standard (A2.02 Franklin Pierce University CHNS acknowledges that 20 of his/her work as Program Director can be devoted to either clinical practice or the pursuit of scholar work.
Position Requirements/Skills/Abilities:
- Advanced degree in physician assistant studies or medicine.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a practicing physician assistant/physician and five years of experience in PA education; record of excellence in teaching as well as a record of professional and community service; involvement with the physician assistant professional community and past success in management and academic leadership; or demonstrate characteristics needed for success in a management or leadership position.
- Incumbent must possess knowledge of Microsoft software Word Excel and Outlook.
- Incumbent must possess expertise in budget management. Proven strengths in strategic planning leadership budgeting and management is required.
