The Materials and Process Engineering (M&PE) Department which functions within the Mechanical Engineering Discipline team is seeking a Section Leader to lead our Chemical Analysis team located in Tucson AZ. As a Section Lead the ideal candidate will be accountable for direct line management of the engineering team and ensuring technical output quality and technical decisions to support all phases of product life cycle (including design development and production) for a multitude of programs. Technical output will cover various fields of chemical analysis and nonmetal material selection and characterization with technical leadership covering a wide range of topics from material characterization development process improvement obsolescence and failure analysis.
What You Will Do:
Perform direct line management activities and provide leadership for approximately 1520 engineers.
Provide technical development of people mentoring training performance management and resource allocation.
Perform individual contributor workload in the leaders subject matter discipline.
Team with the Department Leader in the of Materials and Process Engineering Mechanical Engineering Discipline and Raytheon Engineering goals.Lead and support department directorate and engineering initiatives.
Ensure twoway communication for section members; serve as the daytoday liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments performance and recognition.
Responsibilities also include coordinating program and department staffing needs optimizing resource utilization and supporting recruitment and retention efforts.
Provide Materials and Process Engineering support and technical oversight to programs product life cycle (design reviews gate reviews Material Review Board Change Control Board Process Change Board and engineering peer reviews).
Provide evaluation and resolution to technical operational and supplier problems related to materials and processes
Provide oversight to ensure the accuracy of technical output of assignments based on data and analyses.
The Chemical Analysis (SW) Section Leader job is in Tucson AZ and the position is onsite.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelor in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree 14 years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Experience with materials and process design development and/or production support for military programs
Experience with working on a crossfunctional team to meet program milestones and commitments
Experience with Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis including Infrared Spectroscopy Chromatography and Thermal Analysis (ie: FTIR GCMS HPLC GPC etc..
Experience with materials including adhesives polymers tapes composites and various other nonmetal production materials.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer:
Demonstrated ability to apply analytical and polymer chemistry principles to industry applications.
Direct experience utilizing nonmetal materials to support production and development in the aerospace industry.
Demonstrated ability to lead and complete multidisciplined scientific based projects
Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines. ABET is the preferred although not required accreditation standard
Ten 10 years of experience in materials problem solving materials design selection and reviews or evaluation/validation of material properties for new or existing products
Understanding of Systems Engineering
Knowledge of data analysis modeling and simulation statistics and various computational techniques for complex multivariable problems.
Strong communication interpersonal planning and time management skills
Demonstrated strong written and verbal scientific communication skills
Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
Knowledge of STK MATLAB or Python
MS Office (Excel Word PowerPoint)
Basis of Estimate (BOE) Certification

The salary range for this role is 124000 USD 250000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
