Job Description
Technicians are skilled professionals who work in a variety of industries toinstall repair and maintain equipment and systems.Their responsibilities include:
- Troubleshooting:Inspecting equipment and troubleshooting to diagnose issues
- Repairing:Fixing faulty equipment
- Writing plans:Creating safety procedures and maintenance plans
- Negotiating:Negotiating contracts and service agreements with clients and suppliers
- Maintaining tools:Keeping tools in good condition
- Referring tasks:Identifying when to refer tasks to specialists
- Monitoring advancements:Keeping up with technological advancements in the industry
- Updating systems:Keeping systems and databases up to date
- Providing estimates:Providing cost estimates for time and materials before starting a job
- Writing reports:Writing safety regulations and reports
Technicians need to have a broad range of technical knowledge as well as skills such as problemsolving attention to detail and communication.They also need to be able to work well with other professionals such as engineers architects contractors and other technicians.
The educational requirements for technicians vary depending on the field but may include a bachelors degree associate degree or certificate.
