Job Description

Overview

The PGY2 pharmacy residency at University Medical Center University of Louisville Hospital is accredited by the American Society of HealthSystem Pharmacists (ASHP) and offers a complete experience in multiple specialty areas. The PGY2 program is a 12month training program that begins in early July and ends 30th of June of the following year. The completion of the program and receiving a certificate is dependent on successful completion of all competencies defined for the program.
The program is structured according to ASHPs Residency Program Design and Conduct and is designed to be flexible and individualized to the residents professional goals and interests.
PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D. education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in that practice area (when board certification for the practice area exists).

The fundamental goals of PGY2 residency programs are to develop clinical practitioners who are capable of:

1. Delivering pharmaceutical care to patients in several specialized areas with a focus on providing clinical pharmacy services in a proficient and compassionate manner.
2. Educating patients students and health care providers.
3. Functioning as an effective member of the health care team.
4. Demonstrating professional leadership confidence and effective communication skills.
5. Improving individual practice by selfevaluating ones skills in providing pharmaceutical care.

Qualifications

Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):

Graduated from an accredited College of Pharmacy
Licensed or license eligible as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire (except if not required of the PGY2 curriculum)
