Job Summary
This position will primarily handle the annual testing of safety equipment (emergency eyewashes safety showers chemical fume hoods) across the University of Utah Campus. Other tasks include assembling and delivering chemical and biological spill kits managing spill kit supply inventory and other tasks based on the needs of the EHS department. This position will report directly to the EHS Occupational Safety Manager.
Responsibilities
1. Performs audits of work places and evaluates collected audit data to determine compliance with OSHA regulations. Prepares draft audit result communications. 2. Assists Industrial Hygiene and/or Occupational Safety teams with occupational exposure monitoring and other related duties. 3. May perform field work required for compliance such as calibrating and operating equipment for taking samples and monitoring personnel exposure making mathematical calculations obtaining media submitting samples for analysis and documenting events. 4. May perform field work involving measurements as directed to determine adequacy and performance of local exhaust ventilation systems including laboratory chemical hoods. Enter collected data into fume hood survey database.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in a safetyrelated field (occupational safety industrial hygiene etc. or two years of work experience in a related field or performing related tasks such as testing emergency eyewash and shower units. A current drivers license. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform physical tasks such as testing emergency eyewash and shower units and fume hoods assembling spill kits by following written procedures and managing a basic supply inventory. Applicants must be able to walk stand move equipment and lift to 35lbs for 75 of the work day.
