Description
The Potomac School English Department seeks English teacher candidatesfor a vacancy in grades 912 beginning with the 202526 academic year. This is a fulltime positionreporting to the Head of Upper School.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage course load including four classes and a student advisory.
- Plan prepare and deliver lesson plans and instruction in a manner that facilitates active studentcentered learning using various teaching methods such as discussions group activities and occasional lectures.
- Work with students to encourage and facilitate each individuals growth as writers.
- Teach the assigned curriculum evaluate students progress inform parents of progress.
- Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
- Meet with parents as needed to discuss student progress and challenges.
- Participate in faculty and professional meetings educational conferences and other teacher training workshops.
- Demonstrate personal leadership qualities to inspire student learning including understanding of the characteristics of the age group taught.
- Work in an organized dependable patient and creative manner.
- Advise a small group of students by developing meaningful relationships with them and supporting their academic and socialemotional growth.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree required
- Minimum of two years experience
- Skilled in writing and preparing lesson plans.
- Ability to communicate motivate and understand the students educational and emotional needs.
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers support staff parents and members of the community.
- Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and use different teaching methods that inspire high student achievement.
- Enthusiasm and joy for working with students.
