Job Family Summary

GEOFormation Evaluation

The Formation Evaluation Job Family maintains the capabilities for interpreting reservoir and fluid properties from wellbore data measured directly or remotely. These capabilities include: 1 having a fundamental understanding of wellbore logging measurement technologies 2 understanding the measurement of reservoir properties from rock samples obtained from the wellbore 3 utilizing analytical methodologies that provide the most accurate interpretation of reservoir and fluid properties possible with the available data and 4 working with the entire subsurface team to properly incorporate the formation evaluation results into the overall asset characterization. The FE Specialist leads the planning for the wellbore data acquisition stewards the acquisition process QCs the data and directs postprocessing and conducts the interpretation. The FE Specialist may work with any project team in E D and P for which the evaluation of historical or current wellbore data is useful. FE is utilized in Research for developing the understanding of the fundamental physics of the log measurements and creating advanced interpretation methodologies. The three subdisciplines of Formation Evaluation are Advanced Petrophysical Analysis Log and Tool Responses and Cased Hole Analysis. FE Specialists may have a geoscience engineering or other technical background and have the analytical ability to provide the best interpretations from limited data.

Job Role Summary

  • The early capability FE specialist like all geoscientists is expected to develop a broad range of fundamental geoscience skills and the ability to comprehend and integrate knowledge ideas and skills to solve geologic problems across exploration development production and research functions. Assignments will provide the opportunity to acquire these fundamental skills through onthejob experience and training.
  • Work quality and quantity demonstrating leadership and mentoring are performance dimensions that are expected to expand in scope and breadth through time. The specialist brings an analytical background usually in geoscience or engineering and may or may not have had experience with well logging measurement technology or the creation and application of petrophysical models. The focus will be to build depth in the three subdisciplines of formation evaluation including Advanced Petrophysical Analysis Log and Tool Responses and Modeling and Cased Hole Analysis. An understanding of reservoir engineering concepts will also be gained. The early capability FE specialist will be able to contribute independently in their role as well as mentor those less experienced and those in other disciplines on the concepts of logging measurements application of petrophysical interpretation models and integration of the results into the comprehensive geologic and engineering characterization of the asset. See the GCO SharePoint site for further documentation on career paths and milestones.
