SUMMARY
The Area Coordinator fosters faith formation and personal development by providing leadership to student residents in two campus residence halls by organizing and supervising resident assistants and one graduate assistant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Promote faith formation in University students by creating opportunities for Christian community and discipleship. Demonstrate an active and integrated Christian commitment support for the Reformed mission and vision of the institution a commitment to professional development and a collaborative spirit with colleagues from within the Student Life Division and beyond.
Provide overall leadership development and supervision for residence hall student leaders by recruiting selecting training and supervising; mentoring RA staff by conducting individual and group meetings; and providing ongoing training and leadership development opportunities to support spiritual and personal growth and ensure community development of the residence halls.
In collaboration with other colleagues train resident assistants to promote inclusive multicultural communities in the Residence Halls. Support underrepresented students facilitate inclusive multicultural communities and promote Residence Hall and campuswide inclusion efforts.
Facilitate educational programming for residence hall students by creating planning and implementing cocurricular learning through programs events individual contact and conversations with students thus facilitating student development outside of the classroom.
Oversee student discipline by using intervention techniques reporting incidents conducting disciplinary hearings promoting student accountability for actions and maintaining administrative records to facilitate student development and maintain an orderly life on campus.
Serve as a liaison and contribute professionally to one of the following areas/committees: sexual prevention international student development gender equity judicial affairs chapel academic advising firstyear programs counseling or multicultural student development.
Establish and maintain effective student relations by cooperating with student retention projects with the registrar maintaining contact with parents monitoring health concerns facilitating roommate negotiations and offering informal counseling to students to contribute to students success and growth.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for supervising 914 Resident Assistants (RA) and one parttime Graduate Assistant. This job requires working on Monday evenings. Normally the after hours crisis and oncall phone coverage after hours is handled by crisis staff (not Area Coordinators).
Required Experience
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
This position requires a Bachelors degree (B.A) from a fouryear University or university; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A masters degree in student affairs or counseling is strongly preferred.
Compensation
Area Coordinator receive a highly competitive salary and benefits including a full meal plan free twobedroom apartment utilities and health insurance. In addition to an apartment each Area Coordinator has a separate private office in the hall.
Note: Calvin Area Coordinators cover the oncampus crisis phone only during weekdays during work hours. Calvin has 3 social workers who cover the crisis phone during evenings weekends and breaks.
