Neighborhood Self Help by Older Persons Project (SHOPP) is a nonprofit social services agency founded in 1980 serving minority older adults throughout the Bronx. SHOPPs mission is based on the philosophy of selfhelp. We believe that older people are capable of helping themselves and helping others improve their capacity to deal with the physical emotional social and financial challenges they face as they age.
SHOPP has several service programs in the Bronx that includes Community Care Network Program; Crime Victims and Elder Abuse Program (VIP); NY Connects of the Bronx; Casa Boricua Innovative Older Adult Center; Leon Guess and Soundview Neighborhood Older Adult Centers; Case Management & Friendly Visiting Program; Caregivers Program and Lafayette Estates NORC Program.
SHOPPs staff must be prepared to utilize the agencys philosophy of selfhelp and mutual assistance to enable participants to gain and express positive psychological and social wellbeing as an outcome of their involvement in SHOPP programs. SHOPP participants are provided with opportunities to: access benefits and entitlements; serve as volunteers; join planning and support groups; take advantage of training programs participate in nutritional educational recreational and health promotion activities; and participate in community service and leadership development.
The Community Care Network Program (CCNP) Assistant Director is responsible for the provision of direct
services development and ongoing management of SHOPPs satellite and the Networks social service
programs and oversight support to the Network. The CCNP Assistant Director will also serve as a backup to
the OACN Director and reports directly to the Program Director. The position requires a masters degree in
social work or related field from an accredited graduate school and experience in group work programming or
a bachelors degree with five years of combined experience in areas of case assistance case management
supervision and groupwork. Knowledge of and experience with older adult communitybased services are also
required as well as clinical experience in counseling. Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.
