Description

Position Objectives:
The One on One Student Aide position is the assistant/primary caretaker for children and students 018 years old with cognitive emotional or physical special needs that greatly inhibit or prohibit them from participating in camp activities as well as enabling them to participate and experience camp as best suited for them all in a manner consistent with Mount Hermons mission vision and values. In addition when needed this position will have responsibilities to provide a consistent stable and supportive environment for children in the Child Care or Day Camp programs assisting students ages birth to 12 years old.

General Qualifications:

The One on One Student Aide is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work stewardship relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermons mission vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining cultivating and leading Mount Hermons Christian community conference programs and retreats.


Key Job Accountabilities

  • Assist children with physical mobility.
  • Care for basic hygienic needs.
  • Help kids encounter God and others by partnering with department teams and leads in all aspects of discipleship; implementing curriculum.
  • Support children with participation in group activities.
  • Provide clear and open communication with parents regarding their child/childrens wellbeing with special attention to health safety and discipline.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas including workspaces and supplies clean and orderly.
  • Help provide a consistent stable safe and supportive environment for the children in their care so that they may experience camp as best suited to the childs abilities.
  • Assist a child with special needs. This responsibility demands one on one assistance. In this case the Aide will accompany only child with special needs throughout the session helping them to join the group when possible and offering alternative activities for that child when necessary with the support of the Special Needs Coordinator.
  • Engage the students in custom activities when unable to participate with the rest of the group.
  • Participate in bonus jobs with other departments on the mountain.
  • Other duties assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate.
  • Some college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:

  • Experience working with or caring for children.
  • Previous experience working with students with special needs and/or kids ages birth to sixth grade.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish priorities work independently without supervision and make choices in the best interest of the children.
  • Ability to be oncall and flexible at work with short notice.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with a child his/her guardians and Supervisor.
  • Must feel comfortable working with and around individuals with social cognitive or physical special needs.
  • Ability to be calm responsible resourceful kind trustworthy reliable and have a genuine love for and interest in working with children.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold wet/humid and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting standing squatting stooping twisting hiking shouting ability to lift/carry anywhere from 1560 lbs. and engage in general physical play with children.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermons mission vision values and commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
