After School Elementary Teacher Status: Parttime hourly 20 hours per week MondayFriday 2:006:00 PM)while school is in session Wheaton Bible Church is seeking someone with a heart to serve the residents of the Timberlake Apartments and to build into children there in a way that will impact their futures. This parttime Elementary Teacher for the afterschool program of Puente del Pueblo at Wegner Elementary School will be responsible for building relationships with students academic tutoring life skills instruction and teaching Christian education. This person will facilitate group work with students involving experiential learning as well as plan and implement community service activities communicate with parents and coach volunteers. The teacher is also responsible formaintaining Puentes standard of classroom behavior during program time. Responsibilities Academic Oversight - Facilitate learning in a class of up to 1520 elementary age students in a daily afterschool program including homework completion academic enrichment and skill building and life skills.
- Assess and monitor student progress at regular intervals with Elementary Program Coordinator.
- Develop and enforce standards for behavior management for your classroom in accordance with Puentes behavior management plan.
- Support encourage and resource the volunteer tutors working with your students so that they grow in effectiveness.
- Facilitate and oversee daily recreational activities (in the gym and outside) for students with attention to behavior management; equip volunteer gym helpers.
Other Program Duties - Supervise and monitor Northern Illinois Food Bank snack delivery and distribution in accordance with NIFB training.
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of two programwide events each year (Christmas and Graduation Celebrations).
- Participate in the planning and improvement process as needed contributing feedback to improve program effectiveness.
- Complete all required paperwork.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements - Bachelors degree in elementary education or a related field preferred.
- Previous classroom teaching or group experience with early elementary age students.
- Passion for working with elementaryage students.
- Demonstrates personal interest in the academic progress and home life of students.
- Sensitivity to the needs of students from lowincome highrisk families and culturally diverse background.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.
- Welldeveloped officebased computer skills such as use of Microsoft and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills; team player.
- Proven initiative and resourcefulness.
- Proven record of outstanding organization and time management skills.
- Ability to walk up and down a flight of stairs several times daily.
- Ability to carry and transport boxes weighing 20 pounds daily.
- Ability to walk run and play with children including helping students cross the street.
- Ability to direct and oversee students recreation activity including outdoors in winter.
- Exhibits spiritual giftedness in administration encouragement and helps.
- Willing and able to commit through the end of the academic year (early June).
