Who You Are
As a Staff Process Engineer under the Capital Projects Engineering and Design Department you create Aspen and hydraulic models for chemical and powder manufacturing processes. You are a chemical or mechanical engineer with deep expertise in control valve selection and sizing PSV calculations and sizing and the definition of process conditions for instrument and component selections. You are familiar with various operating modes of equipment and are capable of specifying and selecting control valves PSVs and components for multiple scenarios for steadystate and process ramps. You are highly tolerant of ambiguity and capable of making engineering assumptions for firstofkind technology scaleup.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Drive detailed process design activities for various Capital Projects for a firstofkind manufacturing facility for silicon anode material which may include process manufacturing equipment pressure vessels bulk gases bulk chemicals and powder material handling.
- Serve as process engineer of record for PHAs HAZOPs and other risk reviews and gap assessments.
- Review deliverable quality from external design firms and/or more junior process engineers within Sila.
- Create and review Process Engineering deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) Heat and Material Balances Line Lists Aspen and hydraulic models Process Safety Valve (PSV) sizing cases and calculations control valve sizing and datasheets and other process component and piping specialties datasheets.
- Review bid packages and technical submittals for Process equipment and components for code compliance and design quality.
- Answer RFIs from construction teams and external design firms as necessary regarding Process deliverables and scope.
- Make expert Owner determinations regarding fluid service designations for line lists.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Extensive experience in process design and PSV control valve and component sizing and specification. Solids handling or silane chemistry experience a plus.
- Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain comity licensure in WA preferred.
- Experience working with or for an Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) company especially in an owneroperator capacity preferred.
- Background in semiconductor battery materials battery cell or specialty materials companies with indoor and outdoor facilities highly preferred.
- Selfdriven cando attitude fitting a nimble startup scaling into mass production.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Wear personal protective equipment while in construction zones including but not limited to a hard hat safety glasses and safety shoes
- Walk moderate distances and/or be stationary for extended periods of time
- Climb stairs or over containment walls < 3 feet
- Use ladders and wear fall protection to inspect production equipment as necessary
- Operate a computer and other office equipment
Work Schedule
Regular Shift: Monday Friday 9:00am 6:00pm
The starting base pay for this role is between $151000 and $191000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors such as education experience and skills. Base pay is only one part of Silas competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits perks equity and bonuses. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
