Job Description

GAI is seeking a Project Engineer 2 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team. Required skills include transmission line design experience critical thinking problem solving organization teamfocus and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. Candidates with a minimum of 1year of experience and knowledge in PLSCADD are eligible for remote work. Candidates without PLSCADD knowledge need to be based at any GAI office onsite or on a hybrid schedule. The successful candidate will be eligible for a GAI signon bonus if applying without the use of an outside recruiting agency.

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for technical leadership and the successful delivery of transmission line designs while maintaining the scope schedule budget and quality of projects within GAIs Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical communication and computer skills.

Competency

  • Knowledge of project management skills and uses intermediate practices to increase productivity efficiency and accuracy. May serve as PM Coach to Task Managers and other PMs.
  • Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Complete daytoday project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
    • Preparation of Specification Packages
    • Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
    • Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLSCADD PLSPOLE and PLSTower
    • Design and Analysis of foundations.
    • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes standards and specifications.
    • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
    • Coordination and development of permits for Railroads Roadways and Environmental Crossings.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Implements effective engineering methods provides technical guidance and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
  • Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.
  • Coordinates and develops proposed scope schedule and fee for projects managed.
  • Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects providing peer reviews and training of engineers and designers in quality control processes.

Direction Received:

  • Design a portion of a project system component or process; prepares complete project documents; designs and conducts field investigations analyzes and interprets data; formulates and solves problems. Works under broad direction from senior management in which supervision and guidance is provided largely on overall objectives critical issues new concepts and policy matters.

Education and Training:

  • Bachelors degree from an ABET accredited college or university in engineering is required. Preferred a degree in Civil Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transmission line design concepts and principles.
  • Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships.
  • Minimum of 12 years experience in transmission line design.
  • Required experience with PLS suite (PLSCADD and PLSPOLE).
  • Preferred experience with PLSTOWER and FAD Tools.

Certificates Licenses Registrations:

  • Must have PE (Professional Engineer License).

Competency:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Autocadd Microstation PLS Suite

Communication Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical reports and procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g. engineering calculations design etc.

Computer Skills:

  • Demonstrate indepth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages. Must be willing to learn software that is specific to Power Delivery Industry.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel to GAI and client office locations as needed. Travel requirement is estimated at up to 10.

Work Schedule:

This is a fulltime 40HR per week exempt position.
