About the Role: CASA Mental Health Classrooms are CASAs new model for schoolbased mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a childs mental health and school needs through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher. CASA Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta community partners and school divisions.
The Mental Health Therapist will:
Work with the CASA team and external supports to provide highquality traumafocused mental health therapies to children teens and families.
Complete mental health assessments design treatment plans and provide multimodality therapy for students.
Help caregivers with children who have exceptional needs build specialized parenting skills.
Formulate diagnoses as appropriate using the DSM5TR and other diagnostic tools.
Conduct case management functions including convening case conferences and liaising with CASA therapists and psychiatrists community services and other professionals involved with the child and their family.
Coordinate consultation with others therapists or external partners as appropriate.
Supervise and/or precept student placements.
Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of disciplinespecific issues.
Qualifications
Masters degree in psychology social work or occupational therapy or a bachelors degree in social work or a related discipline such as psychology or social sciences with a minimum of three years of related experience in an educational or mental health setting.
Active registration and in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) or Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
Valid Class 5 drivers license and access to a vehicle.
Conditions of Employment
A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) or Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA) training as well asphysical ability to perform all interventions.
