ESSENTIAL DUTIES FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages and coordinates all aspects of Optical business Insurance Verification patient records and financial transactions; ensure that all aspects of these functions support optimal patient and provider satisfaction.
- Assists patients in selecting the correct frames ordering the frames/lenses monitoring all billing verifying the finished eyeglasses against ANSI eyeglass standards notify patients when the eyeglasses are ready to be pickedup and making all necessary adjustments to the eyeglasses at the time of dispensing.
- Perform screening to include: visual acuity confrontation visual fields interpupillary distance measurements and neutralization of the patients glasses by manual and automated lensometry.
- Prepares triage sheets/forms for the optometrists use. Prepares patients for examination. Assists eye care professional in examination as required. Assists with procedures by preparing the patient using standard precautions.
- Provides Navajo and English interpretation/explanation for doctors and patients when needed to answer patient questions or to prepare the patient for examination and to assist the optometrist and patient in communicating.
- Performs other tests as requested by the optometrist including but not limited to visual field testing (automated and manual) anterior and retinal photography noncontact tonometry visual skills testing depth perception keratometry (automated) and auto refraction.
- Provides and assists onetoone group and community patient education to groups that includes presentations to school groups senior centers and health fairs on topics such as: glaucoma diabetic retinopathy cataracts surgery and refractive error. Maintain the supply of patient education materials.
- Coordinates the use of services from other providers scheduling of patients transportation and other activities necessary to obtain evaluation and treatment results from referral sources in a timely manner.
- Coordinates referrals with HIS and nonHIS offices (e.g. Contract Health Services private insurance companies).
- Completes correspondence filing and other paperwork related to other eye clinic necessities.
- Maintains cleans and sterilizes equipment order materials and supplies. Completes laboratory request slips and delivers specimens. Maintains calibration for all necessary equipment and instrumentation on a regular basis.
- Assists providers in school screening activities. Attends inservice training and meetings.
- Represents the hospital at meetings health fairs tribal meetings etc. Performs community vision related surveys educational meetings etc.
- In the absence of the Ophthalmic Patient Coordinator will serve as optometry liaison to the Diabetes Management (DM) program to work directly with the Diabetes Coordinator.
- Check Optometry medication stock to ensure that proper levels are maintained stock is rotated and medications are stored properly checks for and discards outdated and assist with physical inventory of all medication.
- Takes transcribes and distributes minutes of various meetings.
- Maintain and update master leave calendar ophthalmic technician work with shift calendar uploads on the SharePoint.
- Ensure Techs are trained to anticipate the clinical needs for them to do to elevate their support of the provider.
- Ensure Techs master their core clinical competencies white while performing their support duties.
- Ensure Optician is able to work with precision competence knowledge and by offering appropriate (specialty) products.
- Act as a role model for fellow employees and to maintain smooth flow of patients and provider satisfaction.
- Responsible for handling upset patients as needed. Assess situation and resolve problems to patient full satisfaction.
- Work with Ophthalmic Patient Coordinator to ensure the proper technical staff are available.
- Proactively monitor clinic supply/inventory and equipment needs (repairs).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Three 3 years direct patient care experience.
Education: Graduation from an accredited American Optometric Association Program.
Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) license.
