Job Description

Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description:

The Public Facilities Department (PFD) provides professional project management services for planning design and construction projects at Cityowned buildings throughout Boston. We work in conjunction with and on behalf of user agencies by managing studies renovation or new construction projects at buildings where City services are delivered. PFD manages a range of design and construction projects valued between $1M $125M and planning projects ranging in value between $50k$1M. PFD typically handles an overall caseload of between 80100 projects valued at more than $500M annually.

Under the supervision of an Assistant Director within the Public Facilities Department the Project Manager I for Studies will be responsible for the following.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing design studies and space planning.
  • Preparation of project programming and feasibility studies design review and estimation as well as establishing project budgets.
  • Selection and specification of interior finishes furnishings equipment and colors.
  • Coordinating the preparation of construction documents and specifications and construction administration.
  • Facilitation of community processes and other related architectural services as required on a variety of municipal project types.
  • Establishing design standards participating in designer selections and managing the schedules and budgets for assigned projects.
  • Performing related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least five 5 years of broad technical experience in architecture and construction including experience in a number of the areas listed above is required.
  • Experience managing schedules and budgets and supervising and managing staff preferred.
  • Architectural registration is required.
  • Office of the Inspector General Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official (MCPPO) certification is preferred.
  • Ability to evaluate contract documents design details shop drawings and related submittals is required.
  • Knowledge of building codes cost estimations and field supervision is required.
  • Proficiency in computer scheduling and GADD application is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal and problemsolving skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts public procurement laws and regulations including designer selection (M.G.L. c. 30 preferred.
  • LEED Accreditation preferred.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
