Job Description

Daytoday supervision of staff within a Product Development laboratory carrying out mix trials and performancerelated testing of concrete in accordance with European standards UKAS requirements and company procedures.

In addition to the supervisory aspects of the role the job involves performing the same duties as the laboratory technician(s).

Provision of test data to be used in QC mix cost optimisation and product development.

Travel to other HM labs and production sites for mix trial/technical transfer support of HM Team and customers

Key accountabilities



Health & Safety



Ensure the requirements of the companys Health & Safety policy and employees duties under health & safety legislation are complied with at all times.

Assist in the production of and follow Risk Assessments Safe Working Practices and any other Health & Safety documentation as issued and support the Regional Technical Manager in reviewing these documents to ensure a safe work environment.

Actively promote a positive health and safety culture in the laboratory through participation in company and departmental safety initiatives.

Carry out health and safety inspections of the laboratory as agreed with the Regional Technical Manager.



Quality



Ensure requirements of the Technical Systems Manual ISO/IEC 17025 and UKAS are met including maintaining equipment calibration status and staff competency.

Monitor and control work of technician(s) carrying out test procedures.

Carry out testing of concrete in accordance with current laboratory procedures and local work instructions.

Maintain nonconformity reporting systems.

Timely provision of test data to the business in order to satisfy inhouse and external customer requirements.

Administer high quality concrete product technical support to both internal and external customers.

Assist in the maintenance and extension of UKAS accreditation as per business requirements by ensuring that the Product Development Laboratory operates within the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and the Technical Systems Manual.

Assist in the development of new and evolve existing products with a view to profit improvement

Actively participate in a culture of continuous improvement in test accuracy efficiency and customer service.



Production



Ensure test procedures are carried out within timescales agreed by the business by optimising use of staff and equipment.

Ensure adequate supplies of laboratory consumables are available at all times by managing stocks and reporting shortfalls to the Regional Technical Manager.



Reporting



Ensure test reports are prepared accurately and are made available to customers within agreed timescales.

Prepare reports and maintain production statistics as agreed with the Regional Technical Manager.



Staff Development & Training



Assist the Regional Technical Manager with staff appraisals if required.

Train all direct reports where necessary in conjunction with the Regional Technical Manager.



Customer Service



Promote good relationships with internal and external customers by satisfactorily and speedily resolving queries.



Supervision & Leadership



Actively promote good working practices and acceptable standards of discipline and behaviour by providing a good example to other staff and practicing good standards of manmanagement in accordance with the companys Human Resources policies.





Financial & NonFinancial accountabilities (capture size of role e.g. budget responsibility)



Consumable maintenance equipment and calibration costs of lab up to 10K



Compliance



Technical experience with appropriate skills in practical application of concrete mix design procedures and a good knowledge of relevant test specifications.

Experience of working within a UKASaccredited laboratory environment.

Flexible and committed approach and the ability to work outside normal hours if required.

Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Organised ability to prioritize and make decisions.

Good communicator and team player at all levels.



The role holder is expected:
