The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Total Rewards the Compensation & Classification Specialist is responsible for leading and implementing SAITs Compensation & Classification project. This role will focus on implementing a new job structure ensuring effective change management to support adoption and aligning compensation strategies with SAITs payforperformance philosophy and other organizational goals.

This role will support succession planning initiatives and integrate compensation strategies with performance management programs. The Specialist will also lead the establishment and facilitation of a classification committee to ensure consistency transparency and alignment with SAITs job evaluation processes.

This is a temporary role focused on leading and implementing SAITs Compensation & Classification project.

The Role

    • Strategic Oversight
    • Lead SAITs Compensation & Classification project with Mercer ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
    • Develop and maintain compensation frameworks job evaluation structures and classification policies.
    • Ensure compliance with legislation collective agreements and pay equity standards.
    • Facilitate a classification committee to ensure fairness and consistency.
    • Collaborate with Finance Talent Management and HR teams to align compensation strategies.
    • Support organizational redesigns by analyzing compensation impacts.

    • Project and Vendor Management
    • Lead change management strategies for new compensation structures and practices.
    • Manage projects ensuring timely and budgetconscious .
    • Present datadriven insights and engage stakeholders at all levels to foster collaboration.
    • Oversee vendor relationships ensuring highquality and timely deliverables.

    • Education and Communication
    • Develop communication materials including presentations compensation guides and resources.
    • Design and execute educational initiatives to enhance understanding of compensation programs.
    • Promote compensation programs to drive engagement and transparency.
    • Translate complex compensation concepts into clear accessible information.
    • Train leaders and HR teams on compensation updates job evaluation and classification processes.

    • Data Analysis and Trends
    • Research and evaluate compensation trends to enhance culture and employee experience.
    • Ensure data accuracy audits and financial reconciliations.
    • Act as a subject matter expert for data gathering pay equity reviews and compliance reporting.
    • Establish KPIs reporting framework and metrics for optimizing workflows and continuous improvement.
    • Conduct budgeting and forecasting for compensation costs in alignment with financial goals.

Qualifications & Experience

    • Postsecondary degree with preference given to specialties in Human Resources Business Administration or a related field.
    • 5 or more years established experience in a senior compensation and/or compensation role
    • Proven expertise in designing and managing job structures job evaluation frameworks and job description development.
    • Experience in building and sustaining complex total rewards strategies and programs
    • Proficiency in advanced excel such as experience building macros compensation spreadsheets etc.
    • Completion or currently enrolled in CPHR CCP and/or CEBS designation is desired.
    • Preference will be given to related experience in a unionized environment.
