Job Description

Title: Associate Athletic Trainer II

Employee Classification: AP Administrative Professional

General Summary

This position will assist in the coordination and administration of the healthcare program of all studentathletes within the department of intercollegiate athletics. This position will also assist in the instruction and delivery of athletic training education curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Health Promotion and Human Performance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Medical Director provide and coordinate a holistic health care program for all studentathletes within the department of intercollegiate athletics to include but not limited to: emergency medical planning and care injury and illness evaluation and management rehabilitation physician referral and development of injury prevention.
  • Assist in coordinating preparticipation orthopedic general medical and mental health screens.
  • Determine participation status and execute with the unchallengeable authority to return and/or remove a patient to/from participation in coordination with team physicians.
  • Attend athletic practices and competitions in order to provide appropriate athletic training services to studentathletes in the intercollegiate athletic training program.
  • Maintain timely medical records of studentathletes participating in sports in the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Assist in maintaining the policies and procedures of the sports medicine department.
  • Perform administrative duties as required for Senior Associate Athletic Director for StudentAthlete Health & WellBeing.
  • Adhere to any and all NCAA MidAmerican Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies rules regulations and operational procedures.
  • Perform other related departmental duties as required by the Program Coordinator of the Athletic Training Program.
  • Teach no more than 6 credit hours per semester (Fall/Winter) in the EMU Athletic Training Program.
  • Assign and submit grades in accordance with established University schedules.
  • Engage in pursuits that enable them to remain current in their respective discipline.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters degree in athletic training or related field is required.

Certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer is required.

Eligibility for or possession of Athletic Trainer License in Michigan is required.

Certified membership in good standing with the National Athletic Trainers Association is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate in Athletic Training or earned doctoral degree in a related field is preferred.

Prior experience as an athletic trainer in a collegiate setting is preferred.

Preceptor experience with an athletic training program is preferred.

Teaching experience in an accredited athletic training program is preferred.
