Job Description

OU Health Physicians Tulsa provides medical excellence to each of our patients in stateoftheart practice locations throughout the city. We are currently looking for a NP/PA for our Family Medicine clinic at our south memorial location. OU Health Physicians Tulsa has a dedicated team of providers in over 20 specialties offering extraordinary care unmatched expertise and a coordinated plan of care. From the Wayman Tisdale Specialty Health Center to OU Health Physicians South Memorial and all spots in between were committed to the health of our communitys entire population.

Join OU Physicians as a member of our teambased care environment working alongside the OU Physicians faculty residents and staff. Being a NP/PA in an academic medical setting allows you to work at the top of your license and to participate in the training of the next generation of physicians and physician assistants.

POSITION INFORMATION:Provides care to patients across the lifespan in a family medicine practice setting under the supervision of a physician

Essential Duties:

  • Physician Assistance. Assists physician during the examination as needed.
  • Sample Collection. Collects samples from patients including blood urine etc. Prepares samples for analysis or shipment.
  • Information Gathering. Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate blood pressure weight body temperature etc.
  • Patient Follow Up. Makes follow up patient appointments or follows up on patient appointments. Answers routine questions from patients family etc.
  • Data Collection. Collects all laboratory reports data and records.
  • Medication Administration. Administers medication to patients.
  • Collaboration. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient quality patient care. Evaluates and improves teaching and healthcare practices and recommends modifications.
  • Patient Education. Provides educational information to patients family etc.
  • Emergency Response. Responds to and intervenes in emergency situations such as anaphylaxis hypoglycemia hypotension hemorrhage respiratory distress etc.
  • Patient Assessment. Assesses and monitors patient response to procedures and treatments. Reports patient condition and reaction to tests treatments and any significant incidents to the physician.
  • Specialized Testing. Performs specialized testing using physicianguided protocols.
  • Diagnosis. Establishes diagnoses. Evaluates collected patient data and collaborates with the attending physician consulting services and extended healthcare team to form a diagnosis.
  • Plan of Care. Establishes the plan of care for patients by evaluating all pertinent information and collaborating with healthcare team.
  • Implementation of Care. Implements the plan of care by writing patient care orders when within the scope of the practice or by verbal order from the physician. Orders diagnostic tests and procedures medication consultations workups etc.
  • As Needed.Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Qualifications:

Required Education: Masters Degree in Nursing OR Masters degree from accredited Physician Assistant program AND:

  • Must be licensed as a Physician Assistant Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical:Standing for long periods of time. Manual dexterity. Speaking listening walking
  • Environmental:Clinic Environment. Exposure to ill patients blood borne pathogens infectious diseases

Certifications or Licenses:

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) license in State of Oklahoma AND
  • Active board certification Nurse Practitioner

Physician Assistant:

  • Active PA license in State of Oklahoma AND
  • Active PA board certification
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist:
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in state of Oklahoma AND
  • Active CNS board certification
  • Nurse Practitioners Physician Assistants and Clinical Nurse Specialists must obtain the required licensure from the State of Oklahoma within 30 days after the offer of employment.

All Nurse Practitioner Physician Assistant and Clinical Nurse Specialists applicants must have:

  • Active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and Advanced Life Support certifications. If relevant to practice area Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. Obtain within 90 days of employment in this position.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of etiologies risk factors pathophysiology presentation and epidemiology of medical conditions.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in procedural skills pertinent to practice area.
  • Demonstrates an advanced level of medical/nursing clinical knowledge communicationand interdisciplinary collaboration professionalism and systemsbased practice.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of accountability for the professional practice.
  • Knowledge of the indications contraindications side effects interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities. Manages general medical and surgical conditions.
  • Ability to follow ethical principles regarding patient confidentiality informedconsent and unanticipated adverse outcomes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Communicates effectivelywith patients families and caregivers.
  • Utilizes critical thinking to synthesize and analyze collected data.
  • Demonstrates insight into own strengths limitations and knowledge deficits.
  • Demonstrates initiative to meet identified learning needs using multiple resources.
  • Actively participates in selfevaluation by seeking and utilizing guidance and constructive feedback in a professional manner.
  • Continuously seeks opportunities for clinical advancement and knowledge and skill attainment.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Promotes mutual respect and trust working within a team model.
  • Ability to work with patients and families when a situation is emotional and intense.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to be flexible resilient and change oriented.
