The Civil Engineer Roadway Design leads roadway projects of varying complexity through all design phases exercising initiative and independent judgment within defined technical and procedural limits. This position designs and reviews roadway projects according to standards established by the Maricopa County Department of Transportation.

We Require
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
Three years ofprofessional civil engineering work experience
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration or by the technical board of another state with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of employment
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona drivers license by the time of hire
We Also Value
Four years of professional civil engineering work experience
Experience using MicroStation InRoads and OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
Experience designing roadwayrelated projects
Job Contributions
Design plan and inspect components of roadway engineering projects
Prepare conceptual plans detailed plans specifications and estimates for public works construction project components
Assume the technical responsibility for coordinating/preparing/reviewing phases or components of projects including engineering reports calculations plans and special provisions in accordance with Public Works standards and codes
Make technical engineering analysis of proposed projects; evaluate the need for design changes and make appropriate recommendations; review plans for conformity to uniform codes local ordinances and state and Federal regulations
Develop drafting plans and technical drawings and perform computing work as required
Participate in the development of project design concepts and criteria
Maintain project files and documents design and project management decisions; write various analytical reports and make technical estimates of a specialized nature in connection with various projects
Review project deliverables and assess the scope schedule cost and quality requirements
Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
This position is eligible for hybrid flexibility after a brief training period
Exerting 20 25 pounds occasionally 10 25 pounds frequently or up to 10 pounds constantly
The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities the employee may be exposed to loud noise noxious odors unsanitary conditions chemicals electricity moving mechanical parts varying weather conditions and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes odors dust mists gases or poor ventilation
