Description

The National Environmental Public Health Internship Program (NEPHIP) is a 400hour internship opportunity that links environmental health undergraduate and graduate students with internship placements at qualified state tribal local and territorial (STLT) environmental public health agencies.


This workforce initiative supports the establishment of qualified applicant pipelines to help meet current and future environmental health professional workforce needs across the nation and encourages environmental health students to consider careers in governmental environmental public health following graduation.

Job Responsibilities

NEHA Intern Job Duties
Learn how to set mosquito surveillance traps.
Understand the job of public health vector surveillance.
Learn to work unsupervised and in the field.
Submit mosquitoes to state entomologist for ID.
Interact with local health district to get additional EH experience.
While the scope of the internship does not allow for mosquito ID training materials are made available to study that aspect of the job.
Maintain communication with state entomologist concerning any additional tasks

Additional Information

Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner and leaders encourages all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and wellbeing.


The use of wellness breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes in a given workday may be used to engage in wellness activities generally in the form of two 15minute breaks or one 30minute break.


Employment Information


Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.


DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree diploma licensure etc.


The candidate selected for this position may be subject to preemployment drug screening and a criminal background check.


As an employee of DPH in the event of an identified emergency you may be required as a term and condition of employment to assist in meeting the emergency responsibilities of the department.
