Overview
The Esri R&D CenterZurich is seeking skilled and creative interns to work on challenging projects that consist of the research and development of earlystage prototype software or methods (several interesting work topics are available). These internships are a great opportunity to gain professional work experience in a leadingedge technology environment. This is a five or sixmonth fulltime paid internship available with two weeks of vacation.
What We Do
At the Esri R&D CenterZurich we develop web desktop and game enginebased software applications for GIS (Geographic Information System) urban planning and architectural design. The applications are 3D graphics heavy and their CI/CD setups include intricate system tests such as screenshot testing. The CI/CD runs on top of an inhouse DevOps platformasaservice (PaaS) which integrates with a global infrastructure that allows us to deliver highquality software to millions of users.

We are part of Esri Inca global organization based in California focused on GIS and spatial analyticsto enableglobalchange.
Responsibilities
- Select or define a focused internship project in the areas of 3D graphics (modeling animation rendering game engines XR) machine learning (urban analytics/simulation design automation) architecture (urban design city planning visualization) 3D Web GIS (spatial analysis web cartography web apps) or UI/UX design
- Research the state of the art on the topic and study realworld use cases
- Propose a design and work plan and discuss it with your supervisor and colleagues
- Start implementing the work plan and share results with the team as you go
- Document the finished work make showcase videos and present it to the team. Optional: contribute as author to a scientific paper submission (e.g. SIGGRAPH or Eurographics)
- Optional: contribute to the daily development tasks in one of our Scrum product teams (as additional side track)
Requirements
- Strong background in computer graphics machine learning architecture UI/UX design or GIS
- Selfinitiative responsible selfcontrolled and selfmotivating
- Good verbal and written skills in English and/or German
- MSc in computer science architecture GIS or UI/UX design (completion or final year of study)
- Existing work authorization for Switzerland
Recommended Qualifications
- Experience with Esris ArcGIS product suite
