Health Promotion Services:
The Health Promotion Service Line of RiverStone Health exists to improve the life health and safety of Yellowstone County residents at the population level. Services include the prevention of poor health outcomes and health behaviors through assessment rural school nursing health education community partnerships policy systems and environmental strategies.
Job Summary:
The Prevention Health Specialist promotes health within Yellowstone County by assisting individuals to adopt healthy behaviors. This position is responsible for work focused on prevention awareness and education at the population level. Areas of work may include: active transportation physical activity nutrition and generalized chronic disease prevention. The work is performed with integrity and innovation to ensure a high level of customer service delivery.
Essential Functions/Major Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Prevention Health Specialist Responsibilities 95
- Designs implements and evaluates prevention health campaign strategies and education programs including active transportation initiatives such as Safe Routes to School and the Commuter Challenge.
- Collaborates effectively with local schools city planners and community partners to promote safe accessible and active modes of transportation.
- Assists in developing work plans and budgets.
- Plans and facilitates committees and workgroups by coordinating meetings setting agendas facilitating discussions and ensuring actionable outcomes to advance public health initiatives and community engagement efforts.
- Manages time sensitive projects and meet deadlines in an accurate manner.
- Conducts regular oral and written communication about health promotion goals facts policy advocacy and coalition activities.
- Participates in various community committees and boards related to program activities and responsibilities; represents the agency and provides accurate information regarding prevention information and resources.
- Coordinates prevention health program activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations.
- Assists with RiverStone Health activities associated with generalized health promotion.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and planning skillsfunctions as a selfstarter.
- Performs effective public speaking to groups of varied interests and backgrounds; develops and delivers informative and persuasive presentations.
- Assists in the preparation of grant proposals.
- Produces maintains and submits regular statistics and program reports using a webbased program in accordance with grant and/or program reporting requirements.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with a diverse mix of local organizations groups businesses health providers and individuals from all the geographic communities within the county.
- Responds to citizens questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
- Participates in emergency preparedness trainings exercises and response activities.
- Participates in program quality improvement projects.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with a diverse mix of local and state organizations and individuals to enhance positive project reach and impact in Yellowstone County
- Collaborate with team members in the evaluation of program and activities.

Education and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of experience in health education nonprofit services health services public education or other related fields.
- Any combination of experience and training which provide the equivalent scope of knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in health promotion public health healthcare administration or related
- Experience working with underserved populations
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
- Required to obtain on the job training in ICSand 400.
- A valid MT drivers license in good standing vehicle insurance and vehicle.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite.

Supervision:
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Works with the public and may be exposed to contagious illnesses.
- Regular schedule requires some nights and weekends for events.
- Standing bending sitting lifting up to 30 pounds required.
- 1015 travel to community events and presentations in town; state travel one to two times per year.
- Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting seeing and reading signs traffic signals other vehicles etc. Travel occurs in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
- Create and maintain a safe/secure working environment by adhering to safety security and health requirements. Integrates injury illness and loss prevention into job activities by attending any necessary training and implementing best practices.
