THIS ROLE IS LOCATED IN SYDNEY AUSTRALIA.
The School of Physics is one of the leading Physics schools in Australia. It offers a world class undergraduate physics degree as well as a postgraduate PhD research program for over 50 students. 33 academic staff conduct theoretical and experimental research in quantum physics astrophysics fundamental physics; and condensed matter physics.
The Education and Teaching Support Officer plays a key role within the School of Physics in assisting with the implementation and evaluation of learning teaching and assessment programs for student coursework.
The role will work closely with the Teaching Support Team Academic Program Authorities and Course Convenors to support the design and development of undergraduate programs and courses.
About the role
Level 5 $85k $96k) Level 6 $100k $107k) Pro Rata plus 17 Superannuation and annual leave loading
Fixed Term 12 months
Parttime 17.5 hours per week)
The role reports to the School Manager and has no direct reports.
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
LEVEL 5:
  • Use a variety of software to contribute to the creation development and preparation of teaching and learning resources that are clear accurate succinct and appropriate for the taught audience. These may include information guides user FAQs lesson plans content and quizzes with feedback.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a wider team on the design and development of assigned projects relating to teaching and learning.
  • Support academic staff with the implementation and evaluation of learning teaching and assessment programs education projects and initiatives.
  • Monitor enrolments and forecast future enrolment numbers to provide enrolment information and advice to the school to assist the school with workload and future term planning.
  • Provide administrative support with assessment planning collating exam papers for academics and coordinating submission of grades in line with school and faculty procedures and timelines.
  • Liaise with the Technical Teaching Support Officer to coordinate and manage the organisation of school teaching equipment resources and loans.
  • Provide administrative and specialist technical assistance to support the use of the Schools education technology equipment.
  • Update the content of the Academic Curriculum Information System including ensuring the online handbook course catalogue and the website are accurate as required.
  • Manage the organisation of assessments and exams as required.
  • Process casual salary claims for casual academics as required.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
  • Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
LEVEL 6:
(In addition to the above)
  • Oversight of ECLIPS updates myExperience student surveys student examinations and casual academic payments.
  • Apply interpret and advise on policies systems manuals rules procedures and guidelines relevant to Teaching Support activities across the School.
  • Provide support to the Teaching Committee Teaching Director and Year Directors and assist with Academic Program Reviews.
  • Deliver consistent accurate and customer focused advice to solve diverse teaching and education related enquiries referring to UNSW policy and procedures as required.
  • Assist in the development of course curriculum and Academic Program Reviews provide Technology Enabled Learning and Teaching (TELT) support working alongside subject matter experts / specialists to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Assist with developing and implementing the longterm vision and strategy of the Physics Educational Technical Support team identifying areas for improvement while evaluating and adjusting to ensure alignment with the Schools changing Education Technology Strategy and longterm goals.
  • Produce establish and curate educational technology support materials and resources including creating instructional materials working with academics to identify and select appropriate educational technology resources for pedagogical needs and organising and maintaining these resources.
  • Respond to requests from education leaders and provide proactive advice and solutionfocused action in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and support the outcomes of the School team by evaluating existing processes procedures and protocols to identify opportunities for improvement and implement any approved changes.
About the successful applicant:
(Selection Criteria)
LEVEL 5:
  • A Science degree Physics desirable and relevant administrative or customer service experience in a tertiary organisation or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education training and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team but also to take initiative and work independently.
  • Demonstrated highlevel experience working with a range of computer systems and applications including Microsoft Office. Experience using a student management system would be highly regarded.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
LEVEL 6:
(In addition to the above)
  • Significant relevant experience in a similar role in a tertiary organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience with audiovisual equipment and digital teaching and learning technologies.
  • Experience providing high level and a broad range of teaching administration support and advice to Academic staff.
