Job Description

Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Hartford in West Hartford Connecticut is seeking to fill a tenuretrack faculty position in Analytical Chemistry at the Assistant Professor level beginning in August 2025. Applications are sought from candidates who can help the Chemistry Department conduct innovative research in analytical chemistry and provide worldclass chemical education. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their research teaching and/or service to the inclusive excellence of the academic community that is found at the University of Hartford.

Responsibilities
The successful applicant will teach courses in analytical chemistry and in the introductory chemistry sequence (generally 3 courses per semester averaging 180 studentcredit hours). Experience with instrumentation common to the teaching of analytical chemistry is desirable. Teaching advanced topics courses within the applicants areas of expertise and interest will be possible and encouraged. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program along with First Year Seminar courses. An active scholarly/research/artistic agenda involving undergraduates with peerreviewed publications presentations performances or other accomplishments in the candidates research area are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department college and university will include advising students in chemistry and biochemistry. Candidates committed to encouraging underrepresented minorities in STEM disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates are encouraged to describe any particular expertise in curriculum development teaching and student engagement in research related to inclusive excellence in chemistry.

Required Qualifications
Required: An earned doctorate in analytical chemistry or related field is required; ABDs will be considered providing they document a degree completion date. Ability to establish a meaningful experimental and/or computational independent research program involving undergraduates that can be reasonably done with some combination of UHart resources and/or with identified collaborations. Applicants not meeting these qualifications may not be hired. Preferred: Enthusiasm for and expertise in research Experience in teaching undergraduate analytical and/or general chemistry courses. Understanding of challenges associated with teaching undergraduates. Experience in supervising undergraduate students in a lab or research setting. Experience working with underrepresented populations. Experience using maintaining and repairing instrumentation common to the teaching of analytical chemistry is preferred. Demonstrated advocacy for inclusive excellence.
