Job Description
The Desert Research Institute seeks ondemand UAS pilot to support a broad spectrum of UAS based data collection over active fire environments. The incumbent will be tasked with planning integrating and executing UAS flights for three separate projects focusing on acquisition of data from onboard payloads.
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in Environmental science (e.g. geospatial forestry earth systems)
- Part 107 certification
- Experience piloting and managing multicopters (quad hex and octo) fixed wing and VTOL platforms
- Experience with mission planning deconflicting airspace and multiple UAS operations.
- Red card certification minimum FFT1
- Ability to comfortably use ground radio communications
- Ability to operate on Public and Private lands file a COA and work in challenging environments (wildland and prescribed fire steep terrain)
- Due to the current health and safety emergency declaration anyone hired must receive a complete (and verified) COVID19 vaccination series or an approved medical or religious waiver request as a term and condition of employment prior to any start date at any Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred fire qualifications FFT 2; ICT3
- Private pilot certification with instrument rating
- Experience with multiple payloads (e.g. optical multispectral hyperspectral LWIR)
Compensation Grade
$50/hr No Benefits)
Schedule
Ondemand with expected hourly commitment to be around 4050 hours per mission
Physical Requirements
- Ability to carry 40lbs
- Comfortably able to walk/ hike 13 miles
