Job Description

The ACLU seeks a Graduate Intern in the TechnologyAnalytics Department of the ACLUs National office in Washington DC or New York. This position can be remote or hybrid.

The Team:


ACLU Analytics partners with teams across the organization to enable the ACLU to make smart evidencebased decisions and bring quantitative insights on our issues to the courtroom and the public. Our teams work ranges from social science research for litigation & advocacy to analysis & reporting for fundraising and engagement to building and maintaining our data infrastructure. We strive to ensure the ACLU leads by example in the ethical use of data and technology. This includes maintaining our privacy and security standards pushing for transparent data practices from government and corporate actors and helping to steward high standards for algorithmic fairness accountability and transparency.

What Youll Do:

This intern will help the team to create quantitative analyses that will transform the way the nationwide and affiliate organizations achieve their missions. This includes creating analyses and visualizations to support strategic and operational decision making across advocacy legal and electoral programs. The intern will also have opportunities to work with experienced data practitioners and develop skills in descriptive and statistical analysis visualizing data and presenting findings across ACLU priority issue areas.

Your Day to Day

  • Help build analytical tools including dashboards for internal partners
  • Conduct quantitative analyses
  • Collect clean and join datasets from diverse sources
  • Interpret the results of analyses for nontechnical audiences
  • Present work internally and to stakeholders on other teams
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

What Youll Bring:


The internship is open to students of Howard Universitys Masters in Applied Data Science program. Interns should possess the following:

  • Familiarity with Python R SQL or a similar analytics and programming language
  • Excellent problemsolving skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Experience with data collection and cleaning a plus
  • Familiarity with Tableau Hex or other data visualization tools a plus
  • Familiarity with NGP VAN EveryAction or other CRMs a plus

Internship Logistics:

  • Location: Our internship program offers a limited number of remote or hybrid intern positions. This internship can be remote or hybrid and based in our New York or Washington DC National office.
  • Time Commitment: Termtime internships may be completed on a parttime basis 10 15 or 20 hours/week) or fulltime 35 hours/week). Summer internships require a fulltime commitment.
  • Internship Duration: Fulltime internships span 10 consecutive weeks and parttime 12 weeks.This internship has a start date of May 27th or June 9th 2025.
  • Stipend: A stipend is available for students who are lawfully authorized to work. Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit. Below are the stipend rates:
    • $20/hour forundergraduate students or equivalent experience
    • $24/hour for graduate and law students or equivalent experience.
