Job Description

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

The knowledge skills and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma or equivalency and at least 1 year of jobrelated experience. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a casebycase basis. 1 year jobrelated college or vocational training in business or public administration office management park or natural resources management accounting tourism marketing communications or other related degrees is preferred.

Special Information:

Flathead Lake State Park consists of six unique park units located around Flathead Lake the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The park units on the east side are Wayfarers Yellow Bay and Finley Point and the west side units are West Shore Big Arm and Wild Horse Island. In addition to boating swimming and fishing each park unit offers unique experiences including camping rental picnic shelters group camping hiking sightseeing picnicking and wildlife viewing opportunities.

This position is based in the Flathead Lake Ranger Station located in the Wayfarers Unit of Flathead lake State Park. This is a seasonal position that will work parttime from late April through September annually. With time potentially extending into October or early April with less hours. This position will work Saturday Sunday and Wednesday. Some physicallabor is required; must be able to lift 30 lbs. The majority of work is sedentary and is performed in an office environment. The position may require some travel and participation in meetings.

This position requires an effective working knowledge of basic administrative skills including but not limited to word processing business communication); electronic and manual filing spreadsheet and database program utilization electronic cash register operation first aid/ CPR/ AED and basic park maintenance functions. Must be proficient in the use of grammar spelling and punctuation and sentence structure. Must haveexcellent organizational skills and be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to develop use and maintain directories personnel lists and other park or tourism related guides and reference materials. Must have knowledge of bookkeeping and record keeping. Must be able lo follow written and verbal instructions.

Must possess or gain quickly a working knowledge including site location and available recreational opportunities for public recreational sites in the regions jurisdiction. These include state parks fishing access sites wildlife management areas forested lands and major waterways.

Must be able to establish positive working relationships with coworkers and the public. Must be able to effectively deal with angry individuals who are dissatisfied with Montana State Park policies and actions. Ability to understand and effectively explain Park Parks Division and Department policies and regulations to the general public. Ability to use tact courtesy poise alertness and good judgment in public contacts.

Those who advance to the second stageof this process will be asked lo complete online proficiency and aptitude tests focusing on customer service and computer skills.

Job Duties:

This parttime position is responsible for providing administrative support to management and supervisory staff at Flathead Lake Slate Park. The position also provides customer service through phone and inperson contacts at the Flathead Lake Ranger Station located within the Wayfarers Unit of flathead Lake State Park. As such this position is responsible for staffing the front desk of the Ranger Station maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the Ranger Station and its restrooms.

The administrative duties of this position include the following: processing bill payments tracking expenditures processing park revenue dosing the cash register daily creating bank deposits and transporting to the bank processing bank deposits brought from other park units processing facility rentals and special use permits maintaining electronic and paper file systems coordinates supply and merchandise orders and organizing volunteer uniforms and paperwork.

Customer service is a primary job duty of this position. As such the incumbent is expected to provide excellent customer service while performing the following duties: providing written and verbal information to visitors responding to park emails and phone messages operating the campground reservation program aiding recreation technicians inthe operation of the reservation program and staffing the Wayfarers Entrance Station. When working in this position the incumbent must quickly gain a sound workingknowledge of Park Parks Division and Department policies and procedures and an indepth understanding of the areas tourist attractions.
