Introduction

With headquarters in Troms Norway Kongsberg Satellite Services AS (KSAT) supplies ground station services for satellite communications. KSAT is the worlds largest supplier of telemetry tracking and command (TT&C) and data acquisition services for nongeostationary satellites.

Founded in 1968 KSAT has grown to over 350 employees with an annual revenue of approximately $120M. About 50 of KSATs annual revenue comes from the US. The wholly owned subsidiary KSAT Inc. (aka. KSAT USA) is located in Denver Colorado and is rapidly growing in response to strong US Government and industry demand for commercial ground segment services. As a result of KSATs continued growth in the US more critical talent is needed.

Summary of Position

KSAT USA is seeking an early to midcareer engineer to perform design development deployment and testing of satellite ground systems focused on demodulator deployment antenna installation/integration and site engineering. This role will act as a technical resource for key customers in the USA working closely with KSATs broader global engineering and program teams. Critical functions include integrating and operationalizing complete radio frequency (RF) ground systems servicing space missions with a focus on backend/datacenter integration and test.

In the near term the Satellite Ground Systems Engineer will be part of a ground antenna team in coordination with the global KSAT team performing additional antenna installations to support commercial missions. Responsibilities will include operationalizing multiple greenfield ground stations at CONUS and global locations. The Satellite Ground Systems Engineer will work closely with KSAT USAs suppliers industry partners and the end users to ensure successful deployment of the complete antenna and backend ground systems.

This position will report to Jeff Mooney US Ground Network Engineering Lead.

The role will be local to the Denver region with flexible teleworking opportunities. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

Compensation

The OnTarget base salary range is between $90K $120K.

Details of the Role

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform systems engineering functions including requirements management assignment and verification & validation
  • Provide engineering support for complete site buildout from site survey through design installation testing and operations
  • Provide engineering support for facetoface customer testing efforts for RF communications and network interfaces
  • Coordinate with the KSAT global technical and program teams to design develop and implement longterm solutions for challenging spaceground communications
  • Work in a matrixed organization

Requirements

US Citizenship

Must be eligible to maintain a US DoD SECRET Clearance

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated engineering experience supporting hardware integration or technical site development/construction
  • Demonstrated experience with the engineering process for complex systems
  • Demonstrated experience with onsite installation backend integration heavy machinery operation and antenna systems acceptance testing
  • Familiarity with Satellite Ground Systems Design (Antennas Modems Timing Amplifiers etc)
  • Experience with RF lab test equipment and procedures including but not limited to the following: spectrum analyzers network analyzers phase noise test sets bit error rate testing and sensitive RF equipment handling/installation (ESD FOD rack integration etc)
  • Preferred: Familiarity with space communications subsystem; (Basic highlevel technical competency for communications including: Radio Frequency communication and interfaces Modulation and demodulation of satellite communication signals Front End data processing of satellite science data and engineering telemetry data Monitor and Control systems)

Travel

  • Travel is estimated at 35
  • Travel will be necessary to customer sites in the United States
  • Travel will be necessary to Troms Norway several times per year
  • Travel to other global locations may be required on a casebycase basis

Education

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or other technical discipline (BSEE/ME preferred) or minimum 5 years of equivalent work experience as substitute
