Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHOwww.youthhubs is a network of 32 integrated youth service hub networks that currently operate in 40 communities where young people ages 12 to 25 years have access to walkin youthcentred community based mental health and wellness services. YWHO engages youth family members service providers and other partners through a cocreation process enhancing the relevance acceptability and youth friendliness of services. The hubs are provinciallyconsistent in core features and locally led and adapted to offer and connect to a range of evidencebased servicesmental health care substance use health services primary care education employment housing peer support family support and care navigationin youthfriendly spaces. Outcomes are rigorously evaluated within and across hubs focusing on positive outcomes in areas of wellness important to youth and their families. The YWHO Provincial Office (YWHO PO) and its 27 Networks operate as a Learning Health System where evidence data and care culture are used to generate new knowledge and continuously refine and deliver best practices for continuous improvement in mental health and substance use care.
Position Description
Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario Provincial Office (YWHO PO) at CAMH is seeking a First Nation Inuit and/or Mtis applicant for a fulltime permanent position supporting Indigenous Prevention Initiatives. The PreVenture Program is an effective evidencebased program that provides early intervention for youth to develop coping skills and habits for mental wellness based on personality traits associated with higher risk of early and/or problematic substance use. The Program Consultant will support the delivery of PreVenture www.preventureprogram a program designed to delay and prevent problematic substance use in youth. The Program Consultant will report to the YWHO Manager of the PreVenture Program and will work closely with the Director of Clinical Practice & Implementation at YWHO the Integration and Implementation Specialist (Indigenous Wellness Initiatives) and will be a part of the PreVenture team. YWHO is supporting the provincial implementation and delivery of the PreVenture program at YWHO sites as well as the implementation of the program within child and youth mental health and addictions agencies across Ontario. In addition YWHO in partnership with School Mental Health Ontario (SMHON) are facilitating the implementation of the PreVenture program in provincially funded school boards and schools across the province. Working collaboratively with First Nations Inuit and Mtis community agencies Friendship Centers Ontario school and school boards service providers and youth the Program Consultant will support the Indigenousfocused pilot and expansion of PreVenture for Indigenous youth in Ontario. The program consultant may also support other Indigenousfocused activities and projects within the YWHO PO.
The incumbent will be required to bring specific capacities and expertise in the areas youth and community engagement service provider engagement engagement with Indigenous communities and expertise and codevelopment. The Program Consultant will provide coordination and planning for the Indigenousfocused pilot of PreVenture for Indigenous youth. They will work with internal and external community partners the First Nations Inuit and Mtis youth and family members Elders Knowledge Keepers researchers and other decision makers to implement the pilot and expand this pilot across the province. This also includes the coordination facilitation and codesign work with the Indigenous partners the YWHO PreVenture team and PreVenture (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire SainteJustine). The Program Consultant supports the active involvement of Indigenous communities service providers and youth and families providing tailored and contextualized support in their engagement.
Qualifications
- This position requires the incumbent to be First Nations Inuit or Mtis.
- Bachelors degree required (in Social Work Indigenous studies public health psychology). Masters in Social Work preferred with a registration with the applicable disciplinary college.
- The candidate will have three years of relevant work experience in the field of mental health and addiction health services or community services preferably in the Indigenous health and/or social/community services sector.
- Experience working with adolescents is required (examples include facilitating workshops and/or youth programming participating in youth drop in settings providing counselling and/or peer support to youth understanding the needs and priorities of young people etc.
- Clinical experience and knowledge of Cognitive behavioral therapy is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of principles and practices of Indigenous engagement and experience working with Indigenous communities is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of First Nations Inuit and Mtis communities cultures perspectives and health service providers.
- Experience with the implementation or adaptation of evidencebased programming or services is an asset.
- Experience with youth and family engagement including advisory/committee/consultation work.
- Excellent organizational planning and time management skills with the ability to multitask produce and coordinate projects to tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and leadership to collaborative partnerships and experience facilitating or contributing to strategic planning processes.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work on a team as well as function independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication (oral/written) community engagement and creative problemsolving abilities are required.
- Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity inclusivity respect and social justice.
- Strong knowledge of Ontarios mental health and addiction system/services and experience working with youth is an asset.
- Ability to translate various kinds of data research and grey literature to nonacademic target audiences.
- Demonstrated skills and commitment to data driven/evidenceinformed decision making.
- Bilingualism (French/English) and/or the ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset.
- Strong PC software skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word Access PowerPoint and Excel) Internet Search and an ability to learn new programs quickly is required.
