Job Description

The Zone Department Head for Internal Medicine agrees to the following service deliverables: 

  1. Ensure that department members are compliant with the Bylaws and Rules and regulations of the NSHA;
  2. Hold regular department meetings and provide the Zone Medical Executive Director with meeting minutes;
  3. Attend relevant committee meetings as assigned by the Medical Executive Director;
  4. Works with Specialty Site Leads to ensure service continuity is maintained through Department scheduling practices including but not limited to vacation requests oncall scheduling and locum utilization;
  5. Participate in the monitoring of standards quality and utilization of resources of the department in the zone;
  6. Provide Performance management for all department members;
  7. Provide complaint and discipline management for department members;
  8. Supports the research agenda within the department;
  9. Participate in any clinical services planning for the Zone/NSHA;
  10. Leads recruitment/retention for the department for the Zone;
  11. Ensures that new hire and onboarding processes are completed with support from the Specialty Site Lead as required;
  12. Participate in Leadership development.

Qualifications :

  • MD (with College Certification in Internal Medicine) licensed in Nova Scotia
  • Evidence of past and ongoing leadership training.
