Department/Program & College Description:
The Central Science Chemistry is the link that connects problems in the fundamental nature of matter to the most complex problems in the processes of life. Members of our department bring chemistry to life as cuttingedge researchers and as teachers for students across the university. Undergraduates majoring in chemistry can go on to several professional fields including medicine and graduate study and are also in high demand in fields like secondary education. Our commitment to teaching is reflected in our desire to build a strong community and to provide our undergraduates with every opportunity for success. Toward that end the department offers a vibrant Chemistry Learning Community for our first year and transfer students. Our Ph.D. program has a history of cuttingedge and interdisciplinary research that teaches graduates how to be independent scientists ready for a career in industry or academia. By celebrating the unique contributions and perspectives of our students faculty and staff we aim to inspire innovation and excellence in all aspects of our work. Iowa State University strives to be one of the most welcoming Land Grant universities and we encourage all applicants to apply.
