Job Description

Leidos Defense Sector is seeking a Lead Thermal Analyst to join a talented engineering team that develops critical defense and aerospace systems. These products include but are not limited to hypersonic reentry vehicles launch systems booster components directed energy systems satellites and avionics.

Primary Responsibilities

The candidate will perform the thermal analysis of structural electronic and mechanical systems and support various test activities. The position requires use of hand analysis methods finite volume models/simulations finite element models/simulations finite difference models/simulations and other analysis tools to produce models perform analysis calculations data reduction and correlate test results to thermal and flow models. This analysis will include detailed steady state and/or transient thermal analyses utilizing standard industry programs.

Candidate will work in a team environment to support conceptual design through product implementation and should be able to lead a thermal analysis team throughout the development lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications

  • The candidate must possess a Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABETaccredited university.

  • Candidate must have at least a BS degree and four 4 years experience (or an MS degree and 2 years) performing thermal analysis in the aerospace and defense industry.

  • Candidate is required to have proven working knowledge with any of the commercial thermal analysis and CFD tools (e.g. STARCCM Thermal Desktop/SindaFluint ANSYS SolidWorks FlowSimulation etc..

  • Candidate must be able to write technical reports and present data to a multidisciplined team.

  • The position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Candidate must be capable of working as part of a larger analysis team or working as the sole analyst on a project.

  • Candidate must have experience mentoring and leading younger analysts.

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.

  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville AL area.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge with:

  • Aerothermal analysis

  • Charring and ablation prediction

  • Fluid lumped capacitance modeling

  • Electronics cooling analysis

  • Thermal analysis of orthotropic materials

  • Structural analysis

  • FEMAP/Nastran

  • Coupled thermalstructural analysis

Pay Range:

Pay Range $85150.00 $153925.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job education experience knowledge skills and abilities as well as internal equity alignment with market data applicable bargaining agreement (if any) or other law.
