Job Description

Job Overview The person hired is responsible for gathering writing and presenting news content on air contributing to the FLX Local Medias mission to deliver timely relevant news to the community.

Key Responsibilities

Research gather and write news stories for Finger Lakes News Radio News broadcasts.

Conduct interviews with local newsmakers and community leaders

Post news stories on company website Finger Lakes Daily News dot com

Stay updated on local state and national news to ensure timely coverage of significant events.

Produce and deliver live and prerecorded news segments including breaking news and special reports.

Ensure accuracy fairness and balance in all reporting.

Work closely with the news director and other staff to develop story ideas and coverage strategies.

Use social media platforms to share news stories and engage with listeners.

Attend news events press conferences and community meetings as needed.

Edit audio clips and reports for broadcast.

Collaborate with other station departments (e.g. production sales) as required.

Qualifications

Strong writing and verbal communication skills.

Previous reporting experience preferably in radio or journalism.

Familiarity with news production software and editing tools.

Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks.

Knowledge of local issues politics and community affairs.

Familiarity with social media for news promotion.

A degree in Journalism Communications or related field preferred but not required.

Work Environment

The person hired would primarily work out of our Geneva or Auburn office with opportunities to do field reporting and live broadcasts.

We are looking for someone with flexibility for weekend and oncall work depending on news events.
