Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Wastewater Operator is an integral part of the operations and maintenance of the treatment facility and is responsible for the effective treatment of water before it is returned to the South Platte River. Wastewater operators operate valves motors performs water quality sampling and analysis and performs light troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

Direct Reports: None

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Functions as a senior operator acts as Operations Supervisor in the absence of an Operations Supervisor. Demonstrates a high degree of leadership acumen including a high level of emotional intelligence; coaches mentors trains and develops trainees and apprentice operators on technical competencies and behaviors; possesses strong collaboration and communication skills; acts as a subject matter expert on the operations and maintenance of the SPWRP treatment plant. Working with Operations Supervisors and the plant ORC recommends changes to SOPs and workflow; suggests workflow improvements and efficiencies where applicable.

Technical Expertise Plant Operations: Comprehensive knowledge of principles of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations discipline.

  • Readily learns and adopts new skills and technologies that can improve wastewater treatment plant operations activities.
  • Understands biological chemical and mechanical treatment technologies their principles of operation and application in specific tasks or processes.
  • Possesses troubleshooting competency to evaluate diagnose and repair operational issues throughout the plant site.

Education License Certification and Work Experience:

  • Colorado Wastewater A Certification or ability to obtain through reciprocity within 3 months.
  • 5 years experience in the operation of a municipal wastewater treatment facility.

*An equivalent combination of education training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires extensive sitting walking carrying lifting kneeling bending reaching and squatting. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Major activities are performed on level slippery sloping unstable and uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions. May be exposed to extreme cold heat heights temperature swings constant noise mechanical and electrical hazards fumes odors & chemicals. Work is performed in an office outside and in an industrial environment.

SHIFT REQUIREMENTS: This position is subject to shift work. Occasional after hours oncall nights weekends or holiday work may be required.

HOURLY RATE AND BONUS

$32.20 $48.29/Hourly Rate

Signing bonuses are available for qualified candidates.

Annual certification bonuses are awarded for maintaining Colorado Wastewater Treatment Certification:

Operator D $500/year

Operator C $1000/year

Operator B $2000/year

Operator A $3000/year
