Job Description:

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Responds to requests for information from the media or designates an appropriate spokesperson or information source.
  • Receives public records requests and coordinates queries and compose timely responses.
  • Writes press releases or other media communications to promote clients.
  • Establishes or maintains cooperative relationships with representatives of community consumer employee or public interest groups; plans or directs development or communication of programs to maintain favorable public perceptions of the Countys accomplishments agenda or environmental responsibility.
  • Studies the objectives promotional policies or needs of organizations to develop public relations strategies that will influence public opinion or promote ideas products or services; coaches and advises management and client representatives in effective communication with the public or with employees; updates and maintains content posted on the web and social media.
  • Prepares or edits organizational publications such as employee newsletters or stakeholders reports for internal or external audiences; arranges public appearances lectures contests or exhibits to increase product or service awareness or to promote goodwill; develops plans or materials to communicate activities that are beneficial to the environment public safety or other important social issues.
  • Prepares or delivers speeches to further public relations objectives; coordinates the production of advertisements or promotions; consults with advertising agencies or staff to arrange promotional campaigns in all types of media for products organizations or individuals.
  • Receives public records requests and coordinates queries and compose timely responses.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a Bachelors Degree in Journalism Communications English or related field supplemented by four 4 years of progressively responsible experience in public relations; or possession of any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities. Ability to speak and read Spanish highly desirable.

Physical Demands:

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.
