Are you passionate about making a difference and ready for an unforgettable experience Camp Paivika one of the first fully accessible camps in the U.S. is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team. Nestled in the stunning San Bernardino National Forest we offer a nurturing and funfilled environment for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities including autism ADHD cerebral palsy epilepsy and Down syndrome.

About the Role

As the Assistant Program Director you will play a pivotal role in the successful operation of our camp providing both leadership and administrative support. You will be instrumental in shaping the camp experience for both campers and staff ensuring a safe fun and enriching environment.

Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible to the Camp Director and Associate Camp Director and works closely with all supervisors. Consults daily with the Associate Camp Director other supervisors and program staff.
  • Attends Supervisor/Program Staff prior to staff orientation to assist Camp Director and other staff in the planning of staff training and summer preparation.
  • Assists with trainings for staff in all aspects of camp programming in addition to other sessions assigned by the Camp Director and Associate Camp Director.
  • Assists with coordination and supervision of all program activities:
  • Organizes and facilitates camper activities and evening programs.
  • Delegates duties to program staff.
  • Assists with assignment of staff to daily activities and evening programs.
  • Assists with supervision direction and evaluates the work of program staff.
  • Acts as a supportresource person for all staff in the following ways:
  • Assists with staff motivation and positive reinforcement.
  • Acts as ongoing resourcesupport person for staff.
  • Provides administrative support to the Camp Director or Associate Camp Director including the following duties:
  • Assists in the ongoing training of volunteers throughout the summer.
  • Collects and verifies all required staff documents.
  • Assists when needed with camper care. Care may include: dressing bathing and toileting grooming lifting and feeding.
  • Performs Supervisor on Duty duties at least once per session including enforcement of curfew and locking of camp in the evening.
  • In the event of an emergency accepts responsibility for any job deemed necessary by the Camp Director or Associate Camp Director to ensure the safety of all the campers and staff.
  • At the end of the summer program:
  • Assists in the planning of staff party.
  • Completes end of summer report.
  • Completes program staff performance evaluations and reviews individually with staff.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Completed college courses with major field of study dealing with people with disabilities are desired.
  • Experience at AbilityFirst camps and/or other camp is preferred.
  • Must hold a current drivers license. A written DMV check will be made. Driving is required.
  • Must hold or obtain current American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Adult and Pediatric certification. Camp Paivika will be offering this training.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills consistent with camp rules and polices.
  • Must be able to lift 75lbs.
