The Chief Steward oversees and manages all aspects of the hotels stewarding department. As a pivotal role in maintaining the hotels standards of cleanliness hygiene and efficiency the Chief Steward is responsible for organizing and coordinating the stewarding team to ensure smooth operations in the kitchen and other food and beverage outlets. This includes managing the proper cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment tableware and other service items. Additionally the Chief Steward collaborates closely with various departments to optimize inventory control minimize waste and adhere to health and safety regulations. By leading and training the stewarding team the Chief Steward plays a crucial part in upholding the luxury hotels image of excellence and contributing to its success within the international chain.
Qualifications :
- Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates with vocational training or certifications in hospitality management culinary arts or food and beverage service are preferred.
- Experience in Stewarding: Candidates should have several years of experience in stewarding and kitchen operations preferably in a luxury hotel or a reputable hospitality establishment. Previous work experience in a similar role is advantageous.
- Leadership and Management Skills: The Chief Steward is responsible for leading and supervising the stewarding team. Strong managerial skills including team leadership communication and conflict resolution are necessary for success in this role.
- Technical Skills: Indepth knowledge of stewarding operations dishwashing procedures and cleaning techniques is essential. Familiarity with the proper handling of delicate china glassware and silverware is also important.
- Inventory and Supplies Management: Experience in managing inventory procuring cleaning supplies and handling stewarding equipment is necessary to ensure smooth operations.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to kitchen hygiene sanitation and stewarding practices is critical for maintaining a safe and hygienic environment.
- Waste Management and Sustainability: Understanding waste management practices including recycling and reducing food waste is valued.
- Crisis Management: Experience in handling emergencies and responding swiftly to unexpected events such as equipment breakdowns or large events is beneficial.
- Collaboration and Communication: Effective collaboration with other hotel departments such as F&B and housekeeping requires strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to Detail: Given the luxury hotels emphasis on presentation the Chief Steward must have a keen eye for detail to ensure all cleaning and dishwashing tasks meet the hotels high standards.
