The Opportunity
The Global Sourcing Specialist will work hand in hand with the Founder of this rapidly growing Canadian business focused on driving profitability quality and consumer loyalty through the diversification of the business’s current complement of manufacturers and suppliers.
Based in Calgary AB and working a fulltime hybrid schedule the successful candidate will have established relationships with fabric mills and factories in China Indonesia and Europe among others as well as demonstrated capability to negotiate favorable terms that allow for increased profit margin while maintaining quality and timely delivery of goods.
Required Experience and Qualifications - 5 years of demonstrated success working in an Apparel Sourcing or Procurement position with a focus on global markets
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field is strongly preferred but a combination of experience and education will be considered
- Postsecondary education in Textile Engineering or related fields would be a significant asset
- Strategic bigpicture mindset that supports effective problemsolving and mitigation
- Specific category expertise in Intimate Apparel is strongly preferred
- Multinational experience is a must specifically within China Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent
- Solid understanding of the global landscape with competency in foreign trade agreements ensuring that our Client is manufacturing in the appropriate countries factories and mills meeting the respective regulatory requirements
- Strong existing network of industry contacts in raw materials acquisition and manufacturing with a proven ability to develop a robust diverse portfolio of vendors
- Exceptional negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to secure favorable pricing and terms
- Excellent communication skills with proven ability to form and manage crossfunctional partnerships
- Detailed understanding of raw material product sourcing and development to finished product
- Strong understanding of tools analytics and best practices involved in foundational sourcing & procurement planning
- Financial acumen to manage budgets and understand the financial implications of sourcing decisions
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
Responsibilities of the Position
STRATEGY - Uphold and when necessary revise the Vendor Code of Conduct (requiring vendors to operate in an ethical and environmentally friendly manner)
- Effectively assess manage and resolve current vendor performance capacity and capability gaps identifying needs for diversification
- Cultivate best practices that will increase efficiency and enhance overall delivery
- Develop execute and manage a global sourcing strategy in a manner that aligns with the growth plan of the business
- Create a PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) process that provides visibility into the status of the different elements and stages occurring during the development and approval process of all products
- Predict product demands and trends to identify potential opportunities for consolidation and development solutions
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers to optimize terms cost and delivery times
SOURCING OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT - Identify key opportunities for consolidation of fabrics and manage vendor activity related to sampling process development development of new resources and pricing
- Continuously strive to reduce overall lead time and establish fasttrack processes to allow for quicktomarket opportunities to support growth while reducing inventory risk
- Maintain all vendor relationships while providing ongoing evaluations of vendor performance
- Manage profit margin through a clear and coherent understanding of vendor and delivery costs
- Support vendor requirements for quality specifications for new and existing products
- Onboard and train all new vendors when applicable
- Maintain open communication with the Founder regarding any changes or updates to free trade and ethical sourcing agreements
WAREHOUSING & LOGISTICS - Establish contingency plans with costeffective solutions for dealing with potential transportation capacity restraints
- Maintain open communication with the Warehouse Manager on delivery timelines and quantities so they can prepare accordingly providing recommendations on increasing efficiency when appropriate
