Job Description

The Role   

The  Data  Engineer  is  a  vital  part  of  the  Data  Services  Team  who  are  responsible  for developing databases and data processing pipelines to enable predictive analytics data science and business 
intelligence.  
 

  • Work with key stakeholders BA / Data Analyst and development team to analyse and define technical solutions to meet business and nonfunctional requirements. 
  • Operational support of our systems (incident response CI/CD Monitoring/Alerting some database and system administration).
  • Supporting end users of our data assets (finding & understanding data tuning queries resolving data quality issues).
  • Low level performance analysis and optimization of databases SQL queries ETL processes physical schemas as well as underlying system and resource utilization. 
  • Analysis of data and source systems.       
  • Design development and testing of: 
    • Data processing pipelines  
    • Data warehouse / datamarts / dimensional models 
    • Logical and physical database schemas indexes views etc. 
    • SQL queries  
    • Scripting for orchestration operations and data management 
    • AWS infrastructure and services                         

The Team  
This role will be reporting to the Data Services Management 
 
Internal Stakeholders 
AI & Ontology Team BI/Reporting teams Strategy and Product teams Infrastructure teams (DBA SysEng and DevOps) Development teams 


External Stakeholders 
Technology consulting and development resource vendors 
 


Qualifications :

Essential Qualifications Skills and Experience

  • Data Warehouse/Datamart Development: Proven experience in the design development and optimization of data warehouses and datamarts including data integration and management.

  • Advanced SQL Development: Expertise in writing complex SQL queries for data manipulation optimization and reporting across large datasets.

  • Software Engineering & Scripting: Strong proficiency in software engineering principles with expertise in coding and scripting (e.g. Python Java etc. to automate and optimize data processes.

  • Data Pipeline/ETL/Orchestration Development: Extensive experience in designing and developing endtoend data pipelines ETL processes and orchestration workflows for efficient data processing and integration.

  • Physical Logical and Dimensional Data Modelling: Deep understanding of database design including physical logical and dimensional modelling for largescale data systems.

  • Database Performance Optimisation: Strong understanding of database performance tuning techniques and optimization strategies to ensure high performance in large data environments.

  • Big Data Systems: Experience working with big data technologies such as Hadoop/EMR Spark/Presto and MPP relational databases including distributed data processing and management.

  • AWS Experience: Proficiency with AWS cloud services particularly EMR for big data processing and S3 for scalable data storage.
