Job Description

Ivy Tech Madison is currently accepting applications for a FullTime Veterinary Nursing Faculty member. This new program will begin in August 2025. Come join our team!

General purpose and scope of the position:

This fulltime faculty member will assist the Veterinary Nursing Program Chair (DVM) in instruction (classes labs and clinical) curriculum development administration student advising and in full support of the Colleges mission and strategic plan initiatives.

Essential Functions:

Instruction

Deliver assigned classes using pedagogy and technology that best supports student learning and in accordance with college loading policy course objectives and program learning outcomes.

Maintain student records attendance grades and other documentation as . Manage a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal state and college safety standards and practices

Facilitate student achievement of expected program learning outcomes

Use the learning management system e.g. Canvas) to facilitate teaching learning assessment and communication.

Must be knowledgeable about the core curriculum knowledgeable about the programs evaluation of student learning and performance and effective in ensuring appropriate and sufficient evaluation of student achievement in all CVTEA accreditation competencies.

This position will be responsible for duties performed as a veterinary technician/veterinary nurse such as collaborative patient care wellness and illness care and utilizing technician students to the full scope of the veterinary technician license capabilities.

Retention and student success

Provide academicrelated coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff

Monitor and document student performance throughout the term/semester including the use of technology for academic advising alerts: provide necessary interventions to include communication with students tutoring and other academic supports and referralsto appropriate college resources.

Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with regional expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2

Promote and assist in student recruitment retention and successful completion of programs including outreach to students by phone technology tools and other inperson and electronic means.

Coordinate or assist in the coordination of a student chapter of NAVTA National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America) to involve and teach students about the importance and influence of professional organizations in the veterinary field.

Professional Development

Participate in professional development activities that may include schedules training time spent onsite in related business and industries and selfstudy to advance instructional technical and professional skills as well as current knowledge within the field of study.

Participate in scholarly activities related to the discipline /focus in fulfillment of annual performance plans and as for certification licensure and accreditation.

Stay current in contemporary pedagogy digital technology and other technology related to teaching that best supports student learning.

Community Relations and Business Outreach

Participate in community service activities on behalf of the college to advance the colleges relationships within its service area as appropriate for the department/division/college.

Develop community/industry/business contacts to advance college relationships within the service area as appropriate in the department and division.

Institutional Support

Provide institutional support as requested by college administration such as participation on committees and task forces projects related to college and program accreditations and grantrelated projects.

Attend commencement and participate as assigned by the regional administration.

Participate in college/campuswide meetings and departmental/division/faculty meetings

Participate in career service and alumni activities.

Adhere to college and regional academic policies

Lead accrediting and authorizing agency reporting

Minimum Qualifications:

A qualified Veterinary Nursing Program Fulltime Faculty Instructor meets all five of the following criteria:

  • Must be a credentialed veterinary technician who must be a graduate of an AVMA or CVMA accredited program.

  • Possess an earned bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution

  • Has knowledge and expertise in the topics they teach and promotes the appropriate role of the veterinary technician (nurse) in the veterinary health care team

  • Has at least four years of directly related work experience

  • Has at least two years of management / supervisory / teaching experience
