The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is a NotforProfit Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of community programs and has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.

The SWAMS Mental Health team places a strong focus on a personcentered approach and a collaborative working culture to achieve the best possible outcomes for our mob. We are seeking a passionate Aboriginal Peer Support Worker to join our Social Services Team.

The role of Peer Support Worker is to support peers to achieve a satisfactory and meaningful lifestyle through facilitating group activities and other key responsibilities. These include:

  • Facilitating semistructured nonclinical group sessions.
  • Process and manage incoming referrals.
  • Provide transport as required.
  • Use your lived experience to positively influence the wellness and functioning of participants in the groups.
  • Carry out administrative duties including keeping records of groups facilitated and participation.
  • Ensure any risk is communicated through the correct channels.
  • Assist the coordinator and services to promote the program.
  • Fulfil organisational responsibilities such as attending peer group training peer supervision and professional development when required.
  • Be aware of support and promote occupational health and safety standards of the organisation.
  • Be always reliable and ethical.

Essential Criteria

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act.
  • Maintain the highest standards of ethics and professional conduct and treat all clients with dignity integrity and respect
  • Current drivers license
  • Current National Federal Police Certificate and Working with Children Check or ability to obtain
