Job Description

Seeking a knowledgeable and detailoriented Labeling Compliance and Specification Specialist responsible for ensuring all product labeling complies with USDA regulations with a focus on fresh and processed meats. This role involves close collaboration with FSQA Operations Marketing and customers to ensure labeling and specification accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal teams customers and vendors to create compliant product labels from development through market launch.
  • Generate box labels using the ERP system ensuring both functionality and regulatory adherence.
  • Coordinate new product setup including specifications packaging and ERP data entry while working with the production team.
  • Submit sketches for FSIS LSAS approval and manage Temporary Approvals when necessary.
  • Handle USDA generic label approvals and maintain records of label submissions.
  • Maintain product specifications for both internal use and external distribution.
  • Stay informed on regulatory updates to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Research the USDA Export Library for new market entry as needed.
  • Develop and maintain internal tools to assist with operations and auditing.
  • Use QMS software to create and update audit forms and resources.
  • Manage customer portals for specifications and product attributes.
  • Ensure consistency with GDSN and GS1 standards including GTIN assignments.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in food science regulatory affairs or a related field.
  • 35 years of experience in food labeling compliance with indepth knowledge of USDA labeling regulations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills including technical writing.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with labeling software (e.g. BarTender) SAP and SafetyChain is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of GDSN GS1 standards and barcode formats is preferred.
