Description

Collins Engineers Inc. an ENR Top 500 Design Firm providing inspection and design to the transportation marine construction and land development industries is seeking an experienced Structural Project Engineer in our Fairfax office. This position is a mix of office and fieldwork with some local travel. Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical engineering information to project manager to ensure the project complies with all engineering standards codes specifications and design instructions.
  • Inspection of bridges and waterfront structures.
  • Ancillary and sign structure inspections.
  • Abovewater bridge inspection including routine and fracture critical bridge inspections and reporting bridge rehabilitation design and bridge load ratings.
  • Design of bridges transportation structures earth retention structures and waterfront structures.
  • Reviews analyzes and provides recommendations on field and/or design issues.
  • Independently preforms moderately difficult engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.
  • Prepares complete engineering plans or reports.
  • Uses computerassisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Keeps project manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
  • Is active in technical societies.
  • Responsible for small to moderately difficult projects from inception to completion.
  • Has limited communication with clients.
  • Is available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
  • Directs and supervises the work of entrylevel engineers technicians drafters and administrative staff.
  • Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
  • Field work required which could include nights and weekends.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree and/or masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited fouryear university and a minimum of 45 years of bridge or ancillary structure inspection experience.
  • Must have passed the NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of InService Bridges course.
  • EngineerInTraining (E.I.T) certification required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E. certification preferred.
  • NICET certification preferred.
  • Valid drivers license.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While in the field the employee may be required to walk in rugged conditions work in adverse weather conditions and stand up to eight hours or more at a time.
