Job Description

Accountabilities:

  • Perform intensive audits and validate the payroll prior to payment including analysis of excess dollars and hours in various earning categories benefit banks sick banks collective agreement penalty rules Workplace Safety Insurance Board and union dues recoveries vacation banks and hospital pension premiums audits within the payroll deadlines
  • Calculate ad hoc retroactive payments as required
  • Calculate and process terminations transfers and leaves in accordance with legislation and issue Records of Employment
  • Determine and process maternity and paternity top payments pension medical and dental benefits as per union collective agreements and Human Resources policy for extended employee leaves
  • Ensure that payroll adjustments are interpreted as per the managers request debiting and crediting the departments accordingly to ensure the employee is paid correctly (this may affect overtime pay vacation benefits and legislated holidays and must be in compliance with the collective agreements and hospital policy)
  • Calculate and process special payments for vacation pay retroactive payments allowances etc. as outlined in union collective agreements and Human Resources policy within the time specifications of the settlement/award (this requires payroll entry downloading of Meditech reports and customizing them in Excel to produce the required results to pay out the amounts owed)
  • Reconcile biweekly HOOPP employee contributions to ensure annual pension reconciliation is compliant includes monitoring employee extended leaves of absence
  • Prepare biweekly monthly and year end payroll reporting and payments to Canada Revenue Agency Workplace Safety Insurance Board benefit insurance the hospital pension plan employer health tax garnishments and union dues for multiple unions etc. within the required deadlines
  • Provide payroll Meditech training to managers and timekeepers to ensure compliance with the collective agreements Human Resources policies and payroll procedures
  • Provide ongoing support through educational information regarding appropriate coding payroll deadlines pertinent information regarding upcoming pays etc.
  • Track and monitor payroll data to create reports tailored for surveys statistics analysis adhoc and benchmark reporting
  • Document changes to employees pay and maintain all such records in accordance with hospital policies

Qualifications :

  • Business administrative or accounting diploma or related discipline from a recognized community college
  • National Payroll Institute Payroll Compliance Practitioner (minimum)
  • Minimum five years of progressive payroll processing experience preferably in the health care industry
  • Working knowledge of an inhouse payroll system preferably the Meditech system
  • Applied knowledge of federal and provincial laws and payroll reporting requirements is required
  • Applied knowledge of working in a unionized environment with a defined benefit pension plan
  • Applied working knowledge of the Meditech payroll system MediHR and Kronos
  • Superior computer skills with experience in all Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with superb interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative prioritized and multitask in a fastpaced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and meet multiple tight deadlines and work with minimal supervision
  • Detail oriented and accurate data entry skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Demonstrated high level of professionalism
  • May be required to travel between sites

Hours: Currently days (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

This is a Hybrid role: Roles that function remotely but require essential regular onsite weekly work

Annual Salary:
Minimum:  $70083.00
Maximum: $87613.50
