The Role

The role of the IB Visual Arts Teacher in the Secondary School is essential to delivering a challenging and engaging curriculum aligned with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) the Careerrelated Programme (CP) and the Diploma Programme (DP).

This role requires a passionate educator committed to inspiring students in the field of Visual Arts with a deep understanding of the IB philosophy and the ability to connect with secondary learners at a critical stage in their development. Prior experience teaching in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Diploma Programme (DP) and/or Careerrelated Programme (CP) is highly beneficial with a strong emphasis on understanding the Visual Arts guide assessment criteria and the creative cycle inherent in the IB framework.

The teacher is responsible for inspiring creativity inquiry and critical thinking in students while fostering a deep appreciation for visual arts within a global context. The IB Visual Arts Teacher collaborates with colleagues to plan and implement the curriculum cocurricular programs and CAS (Creativity Activity Service) initiatives contributing to the holistic development of students. As a contemporary educator the IB Visual Arts Teacher must demonstrate ongoing growth in the following key capacities with professional development at AISPP anchored in these capacities:

Key Responsibilities

SelfNavigating Professional Learner

  • Develops and maintains a personal professional learning plan with a focus on secondary education and IB Visual Arts pedagogy.
  • Guides students in their use of library resources applications and tools specific to secondarylevel art education.
  • Actively participates in professional learning communities (PLCs) to exchange knowledge and strategies tailored to MYP and DP Visual Arts.
  • Investigates advancements in secondary art education integrating contemporary practices into lessons and assessments.
  • Utilizes both onsite and virtual tools to create dynamic and studentcentered learning environments.

Social Contractor

  • Establishes meaningful relationships with secondary school students promoting collaboration and mutual respect in the classroom.
  • Connects students with artists galleries and cultural institutions through partnerships and fieldwork opportunities.
  • Models and teaches effective networking strategies for students to engage with the global arts community.
  • Encourages participation in artrelated extracurricular activities exhibitions and competitions at local and international levels.

Media Critic Media Maker and Publisher

  • Demonstrates proficiency in using digital tools and media relevant to secondary Visual Arts education including photography video production and digital illustration.
  • Teaches students to critically analyze and evaluate media sources and artistic works.
  • Supports the integration of various media types such as digital portfolios animation and film into student projects.
  • Publishes and showcases student work through exhibitions online platforms and community outreach events.

Innovative Designer

  • Designs and implements innovative units of inquiry that reflect the IBs emphasis on conceptual understanding and global contexts.
  • Encourages experimentation with a variety of artistic techniques media and materials suitable for secondary students.
  • Develops collaborative projects including largescale installations and exhibitions that engage students in solving realworld problems through art.
  • Integrates designthinking approaches and cuttingedge research into the development of the Visual Arts curriculum.

Globally Connected Citizen

  • Incorporates global perspectives into the Visual Arts curriculum encouraging students to explore diverse cultural influences and themes.
  • Facilitates international collaborations and studentled projects leveraging technology to connect with peers worldwide.
  • Guides students in investigating global art movements trends and their relevance to contemporary issues.
  • Organizes and supports field trips artist residencies and cultural exchanges that enhance students understanding of the global art world.

Advocate for Learners and Learning

  • Creates a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages selfexpression and critical thinking in secondary students.
  • Provides differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs and talents of secondary learners.
  • Offers regular constructive feedback on student work and maintains thorough records of progress and achievements.
  • Promotes a growth mindset emphasizing the value of creativity resilience and learning from challenges in the artistic process.
