Job Description
Metroland is looking for a curious creative and energetic lifestyle and culture reporter to join its Toronto.com team. This is a fulltime permanent position.
Metroland is looking for a versatile creative and enterprising reporter who thrives in a fastpaced environment and can give our audiences the news they need in efficient effective and digestible formats.
This job is quick moving highenergy and if youre wired this way really fun. The successful candidate will use digital listening tools and collaborate with editors to understand what the audience is hungry for while staying firmly connected to Metrolands principles and commitment to quality journalism.
The ideal candidate understands that a story can take on many shapes and incorporates elements including text photography graphics video audio social embeds and indepth interactives. You will use those building blocks to create lists feature stories and videos for multiple platforms.
Salary Range: $37850.13 $56829.84
Qualifications :
- You have a diploma or degree in journalism or in a related field.
- 2 to 5 years experience with a news outlet or similar role
- You have excellent writing skills with the ability to generate your own stories and a keen eye for viral content
- You love a deadline and excel in a fastpaced demanding yet creative environment.
- You have worked with or have knowledge of Google Analytics and how to track data
- You know and love the city of Toronto and can cover lifestyle topics with original reporting
- You are curious about new trends in the city and are willing to explore them
- You get social media and know how to use different platforms to source and share information
- You understand the importance of SEO and online best practices and use these to reach a wider audience.
- Youre a selfstarter able to generate unique and compelling story ideas but also a team player who loves to collaborate and is easily assignable
- You have knowledge of Canadian Press style
- Must be able to travel within the city for assignments
