Ensure the smooth, efficient, and safe operation of all activities within the container terminal yard.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Supervise Yard Operations: Oversee all daily activities in the container yard, including receiving, storing, loading, and dispatching containers.
Manage Yard Personnel: Supervise, train, and evaluate yard staff, including equipment operators, stevedores, and clerks. Assign tasks, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
Ensure Safety and Security: Enforce safety regulations and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries. Maintain security protocols to protect cargo and equipment from theft or damage.
Coordinate with Other Departments: Collaborate with other departments, such as vessel planning, gate operations, and maintenance, to ensure seamless workflow and timely container handling.
Equipment Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of yard equipment, such as forklifts, cranes, and straddle carriers. Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of container movements, inventory, and equipment utilization. Prepare reports on yard performance, productivity, and safety incidents.
Problem Solving: Address any operational issues or challenges that arise in the yard, such as equipment breakdowns, traffic congestion, or container damage.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve yard operations, efficiency, and safety. Implement best practices and new technologies to optimize terminal performance.
Yard Operations Management
Supervising Yard Activities: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the yard, ensuring that the movement, storage, and handling of materials and equipment are conducted safely and efficiently.
Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of stock levels, ensuring that materials are properly stored, organized, and readily available for use. Monitor stock rotation to prevent damage or obsolescence.
Receiving and Dispatching: Supervise the receipt, unloading, storage, and dispatching of goods, ensuring that all processes follow safety protocols and operational procedures.
Optimizing Yard Layout: Ensure that the yard layout is efficient for the safe storage and retrieval of materials, reducing delays and preventing accidents.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Proven experience in a supervisory role within a container terminal or similar logistics environment.
Skills:

Safety and Compliance
Safety Protocols: Enforce safety standards and guidelines in the yard to ensure a safe working environment for all staff. This includes using personal protective equipment (PPE), adhering to machinery safety standards, and ensuring safe handling of materials.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that yard operations comply with all relevant regulations, including environmental, health, and safety laws. Conduct safety inspections and audits regularly.
Training and Safety Briefings: Provide safety training to yard staff and ensure that all personnel are aware of and follow safety protocols. Conduct safety meetings to address any concerns or issues.
