Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Operating Room team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both OR and endoscopy procedures. You will play a critical role in providing comprehensive nursing care, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and comfort during surgical interventions.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and organization of the operating room for procedures.
Collaborate with surgeons and medical staff to provide optimal patient care.
Monitor patient vitals and ensure adherence to safety protocols during procedures.
Provide support during endoscopic procedures, including equipment setup and patient care.
Educate patients and their families about procedures and post-operative care.
Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines.
Preoperative Care
Patient Assessment: Conduct an assessment of the patient’s medical history, allergies, and current health status before surgery.
Patient Education: Educate the patient and family about the surgical procedure, what to expect before, during, and after surgery, and any necessary preparations (e.g., fasting, medication).
Preparing the Operating Room: Ensure that the OR is properly prepared, sterile, and equipped with the necessary instruments and supplies.
Assisting with Preoperative Procedures: Help with tasks such as administering preoperative medications, securing intravenous (IV) lines, and prepping the surgical site for operation.
Intraoperative Care (During Surgery)
Scrub Nurse Role: A scrub nurse works directly with the surgeon and surgical team, passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and assisting with procedures.
Prepare and maintain sterile instruments, drapes, and equipment throughout the surgery.
Monitor and anticipate the surgeon’s needs during the procedure.
Circulating Nurse Role: A circulating nurse works outside the sterile field, managing the operating room environment, ensuring that supplies and equipment are available, and assisting the surgical team with any non-sterile tasks.
Coordinate the patient’s care, ensuring that everything required for surgery is available and functioning.
Communicate with other healthcare team members outside the operating room (e.g., anesthesiologists, laboratory, and imaging departments).
Monitor the patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels, throughout the surgery.
Patient Safety and Monitoring: Ensure the patient’s safety by adhering to strict infection control protocols and ensuring that proper patient identification, surgical site marking, and positioning are followed.
Assisting with Anesthesia: Although anesthesia is typically managed by an anesthesiologist or CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist), the operating room nurse may assist with positioning or preparing the patient for anesthesia.

Desired candidate profile

Valid nursing license in Qatar or eligibility for licensing.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or equivalent).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in an operating room setting, with specific experience in endoscopy.
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and aseptic techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks effectively.
BLS and ACLS certification required.
Postoperative Care (Recovery)
Monitoring Recovery: After surgery, operating room nurses assist in transferring the patient to the recovery room and monitor their recovery from anesthesia.
Vital Signs Monitoring: Continuously monitor the patient’s vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and pain levels.
Pain Management: Administer prescribed pain medication and ensure the patient’s comfort post-surgery.
Wound Care: Assess surgical sites for bleeding, infection, or complications and perform wound care as needed.
Patient Education: Provide education on postoperative care, including instructions for wound care, pain management, activity restrictions, and signs of potential complications like infection or bleeding.
. Sterile Field Maintenance
Maintaining Sterility: Ensure that all surgical instruments, the patient, and the environment are kept sterile throughout the procedure to prevent infections.
